I was hoping to post this week Wylies 2 year success with AIHA, but bad news, she was not feeling well just off a little, but everyone here know we see even the tiniest change isa possible ilnness. Last week-end she started to pick at her food. I thought maybe it was a tooth problem, becaue it is large kibble. I was taking my Jake my 13 year old lab in to havehis blood pressure checked and brought Wylie alog for a check up. Her platelets are only 54. Thet started her on doxy and are checking with a specialist today whether to start the pred. Her HCT is still up though. Sounds similer to Tiggs. I asked here 2 weeks ago as possilb ereaction in interceptor and High blood pressure as that is what I am dealing with my lab right now along with high protien in the urine. So my mindis did wylie also have a reaction to the heartworm med. Jake has just been tested for tick diesease, lyme, cushings, the vet put him on foxy Friday as we are thinking Leptospiroais and Wylie too Laurie

Dear Laurie, I am so sorry to hear that Wylie has ITP - I assume they will put her on Pred again if it is ITP? I am also sorry to hear that Jake is having health issues - two dogs at once is a lot to deal with. Please keep us posted on Wylie and Jake's progress. Sam & Millie.

I am back home and the news is not good. First My vent, a 24 hour ER that does not do cbc after 5 pm! So the vet could only do a visual, he said it was definately less than 50,000, but also did a clot test the looked good so he said take her home and check my my vet in the morning, he said the doxy could also be making her sick even though it has never in the past, but because of her current state. She did take 10 mg of prednozine and told not to give her the doxy in the morning. Because of her age 13 years old we need to make a decision if she will need a transfusion. Most of her cbc looked good except for the ALT 646 and the ALK 450. Thank you for your prayers and well wishes and I will keep you posted. Laurie and Wylie

Laurie, yeah...what kind of ER vet is that!!! And I bet it cost to go there also. Lots of good a visual will do! Are there any other hospitals you could check out or are you going to just wait till morning? Lets hope the numbers don't get to the transfusion levels. You know, everytime I hear of dogs with low platelets like this I always think of Midnight the miracle dog who had ZERO platelets!! Hang in there and get some rest if you can. Tomorrow will likely be a busy day for you and Wylie. My thoughts and prayers are with you two tonight. Johnny & Tessy

Hang in there Laurie, try to sleep and in the morning, get her on a good dose of Pred. I know she'll pull through, just try to keep her calm and relaxed, and you too! Wait til you get a good, accurate platelet count. I checked Tiggs bloodwork from his ITP dx and it was 26-they did not suggest a transfusion for him, only to get him back on the meds asap and keep him as still and calm as possible. It rebounded very quickly too. We'll be thinking of you, melissa and tiggs

Lauie, I am so sorry to hear this news. But please do hang in there. ITP in most cases appears eaaier to treat then AIHA/IMHA. That is the dog appears to recover from it sooner then AIHA/IMHA. If you have not read about Midnight the Miracle ITP dog http://www.cloudnet.com/~jdickson/midnight.htm Please do. Midnight had ZERO platlets when dianosed with ITP and has had NO relapes.

Well,I hope we are out of the woods for now, I took her in and my vet said you really can' rely on visual at all so he was not concerned with the 25,000 number from the ER Vet. He said it could swing dramatically either way and Wylie looked good and did nto want do more bloodwork until Thursday. he said she was most likey sick form taking the doxy on an empty stomach as she was achow hound this mornging. Now I just need to atake a deep breath and relax a little Laurie

Laurie -- sending my best wishes to you and Wylie (and Jake too). Let's just hope Wylie just had a reaction to the doxy and is recovering now. Take care and hug your sweet dogs.
