Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Worried about Tiggs today

I'm taking Tiggs in today...he's having a very off day, and I'm so worried!

Last night I thought his legs looked stiff, and shaky, but Adam, my husband, had taken him on a hike, so I assumed he was tired.

Today, his whole body is shaking, he's very lethargic, and he didn't eat his breakfast. His gum color is pink, but the rest of the signs have me worried- my gut is telling me there might be something going on.

I'm bringing him in at noon for a full CBC and in house PCV...possibly might check his thyroid as well.

Please say a little prayer for us!

Melissa,

I'm praying for Tiggs and for you. So glad you're able to get him in today for a thorough check. Hopefully it's just a minor problem that can be easily remedied.

Please keep us posted.

Sending prayers and positive vibes your way for Tiggs.

Sounds like you are doing the right thing on taking him in for a checkup. Hopefully it's nothing serious....maybe just a little under the weather.

Hope to hear an update. You got me worried now.

Thanks you guys, we brought him in and they did a comprehensive exam (butt, prostate, belly, kidney's, tonsils, gums, ears, and full blood panel w/ Thyroid).

The inhouse results were good, HCT was 49, white count was good, everything looked good except his platelets were very low.

We were scared b/c the vet said it could be thrombocytopenia, but he also said that because the sample clots quickly, it can give a false low...so he did a slide stain, and it was much better.

The rest of the blood will be sent to a lab for a more detailed analysis.

I still can't shake the worry though....He's very tired, and didn't want to eat. He needed help jumping in the back of the car and was dramatically shaking all morning, and he's just low...

So, I'll just try to relax for now and keep an eye on him. He went on a hike yesterday, perhaps he just overdid it and feels crummy and sore. But, you all know, we never really relax.

I'll post more early next week when we get the full panel back from the lab.

Thank you all for your support and thoughts. We are always grateful.

I'm so sorry Tiggs isn't feeling well. He is probably just tired and exhausted like you stated. Give him a day or so and I bet he is feeling better. I'm sure you will feel better also! I'm thinking of both of you with positive thoughts and energy your way. Take care.

I'm going to have to say "spoil, spoil, spoil!" Cuddle up with him and a blanket and give him a good massage.

Have you ever considered acupuncture for him?

Hope the rest of the results come back saying all is good. I know what you mean about never really relaxing.

Sending even more good vibes to Tiggs.

Melissa, I'm so sorry you're having a scare with Tiggs, he's such a great looking fellow and his story has been an inspiration to me throughout the recent months. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the tests come back fine. Take care,

Hi Melissa, I am thinking of you and will say a special prayer for your Tiggs. Im with Jane, your story is an inspiration to me as well, I WILL him to be okay - the results seem pretty good though, and hopefully that was a false reading, and Tiggsy is just having an off day, like the rest of us do occasionally.

Please let us know how you go.

Melissa,

After nearing our 1 year mark last spring Alex had a set back. His gums were pink but I noticed some bruising on his belly. I took him in to the vet and his platlett count was very very low. He was still on a low dose of Atopica at the time. They upped the Atopica and put him back on the prednisone - however they got him off the prednisone within a matter of weeks due to the problems he had in the past. I was terribly devastated after all that we went through that first year. I am telling you this not to scare you but to let you know that his relapse thankfully was not like the first time. The bounce back was alot quicker. If you get a minor set back it may be just that - a minor set back.
I'm saying a prayer for Tiggs and his speedy return to the hiking trail.

Melissa,
Hopefully Tiggs just overdid the hike. I am keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers. Try to relax until you get the full results back. I know that is easier said than done.

Melissa -- You are Tiggs are in my thoughts and prayers. Maybe he just overdid it on the walk and needs some rest and TLC. Take care and know we're all with you.
