| Hi everyone, I brought Wiley for his blood work on Wednesday and I don't have all the numbers yet here goes. Red blood cells 30%, platelets up to 227000 (yaaay) white cells are good also but she did the liver tests and she said the numbers were off the charts. I am waiting for them to fax me all of the info on that. Because of that, she wants to start tapering the meds. At what point will liver damage or pancreatis set in? Do you think that the tapering of the meds will help? I always worry about cutting back on the meds because we have tried twice and both times, his red cells dropped. |

| Lisa, Having the liver values right of the chart is not unusual for dogs that are on these kinds of medications. Some people might be able to explain what the different values mean if you can post them. Once you start tapering, the liver will slowly recover. The liver is an amazing organ that can heal it self in time. Milkthistle and Sam-E would be good products to help with that process. I got both through the vet. The Milkthistle was in liquid form and from a holistic vet supplier. At one time I also gave powder from human grade capsules, but I think the tincture was better. I am sure you could find it on line. At 30 I think it would be still early to do a 25-33% reduction from the meds. Maybe you could just reduce 5-10%. And remember only reduce one immune suppressing drug at the time, not more than every 2-3 weeks and not more than 25-33%. Has Wileys thyroid been checked? If it is low and needs to be supplemented, that could give him a kick start with the blood building. Worth looking into. Best wishes and good luck, Brigitte & the poodle boys |
