Hi everyone, I had posted last week about Wileys liver enzymes being extremely high and having to start tapering the meds to avoid liver damage/pancreatitis. So today is one week after not giving him the Azo. Last night, he was fine, playful, eating. This morning he refused to eat and he is still supposed to be on 20 mg of prednisone but I couldnt get him to take that. I think he is relapsing but if we put him on the Azo again, wouldnt we just get to a point where his liver would just fail? I feel like I am in such a bad place, if I continue with meds, the meds will kill him and if I don't, the anemia is going to kill him.

I am sorry to read that Wile is not feeling well today. I was just wondering if you have tried Cylosporine for Wiley. Ginger has been off the Aza for a few years now but she remains on the Cyclosporine and her liver values are good. I also put Ginger's pill in a little peanut butter and she has never refused one yet, no matter how her appetite was. I would get him to your vet today if possible and have is PCV checked. Keeping Wiley in our prayers. Cheryl & Ginger

Lisa, if I were you I'd be wanting to hold off on the food as long as possible...perhaps if you could with-hold the food for a day??? I'd strongly suspect pancreatitis given the larger than normal lipase and amylase numbers you gave earlier. Anything other than pancreatitis would likely showjust mildly or slightly elevated levels of both. Another tell tale sign is when one is double the other! SOOO, withholding food would actually be a good thing and would make him feel much better. It's important to keep him hydrated so you might want to syringe water into him (just small amounts is fine) if he won't drink either. Did the vet feel around the abdomin area or is he walking with a hunched up back? Hmmm, denamarin for the usage of detoxing the liver??? You got me curious now since this is zinc induced. IMO I wouldn't assume the zinc levels would be high enough to cause concern BUT it would be enough to make me paranoid also. I think your absolute best bet would be to email Dr. Dodds and ask her about the usage of Denamarin (or ANY products with Marin). Was there only the one high liver value??? ....quick hi-jack of your thread here! hehe I don't know when I'll be on again and only have a few minutes to check everything 1000's of emails!! :( Sorry to those I don't respond to ..... Well wishes, healing vibes and prayers to all that need them! Johnny & Tessy
