I posted on the other thread about taking Wylie to the Er since she has been throwing up for a few days not long after eating/drinking They prescribed her prilosec and I did a search on what it does, I can understand to sooth the stomach of acid BUT She had her full CBC done 2 weeks ago and I gave that to them. I just read not to give to people with severe live disease. Well Wylie has liver disease, as shown in her high ALT,and from what my vet has said and trying to figure the cause. She has been off pred since March. So I have decided not to give it to her since I read this and she has an appt next week with her regular Dr. I guess I am just venting Laurie

Hi Laurie, I totally understand your frustration. Last Sunday I rushed Millie to Emergency vet because she threw up some bile... this was the first symptom I noticed when she first came down with IMHA, so naturally I paniced and thought this might be the start of a relapse. I wanted to get it early this time. Vet did full bloods and said there was no sign of a relapse from her blood work. She gave me Zantac syrup in case Millie had ulcers. I suggested we should put her back on the Carafate, but the vet wasn't keen on this.... Not sure why not, so I've had some Carafate left over and taken it upon myself to dose this after Millie vomited bile again on Friday night. Soooo scared of a relapse, and sooo frustrated that we know more than the vets! Who do you trust? I really only trust the people on this forum and Millie's regular vet. I truly hope Wylie is OK and you get some answers on Tuesday. I'm going to see Millie's regular vet on Thursday.... I'm anxious for that day to come! The stress of a relapse has been on my mind for a week... now i'm back to checking Millie's gums every hour! Samantha.

Laurie, What are Wylie's ALT numbers?? I thought you said in the 400 range?? Holly's were in the 400's last blood work almost 2 months ago, when I asked Dr Dodds about this, she said Holly might not ever regain normal ALT numbers because of being on the prednisone for so long. We will see on her next blood draw where those numbers are at. Maybe contact Dr Dodds about the prilosec?? Thinking of you and Wylie. Linda

Linda, when I read your post from before about what Dr Dodds said about the ALT may never come down, that helped me to not be obsessed over her ALT# which last count was down a little to 390 and also because of her age. I just dont want to give her anything that will make one thing better but another worse if I can help it. Samanatha, I didn't make a connection between the getting sick and a relapse, since on Both Wylies initial sickness and relapse, hers was a total lack on energy. DUH! Since that is the first symptoms of AIHA in so many dogs. Her gums have been very pink and she did not throw up again this week-end, yea! I will give an update after her appt tomorrow with her regular vet. Laurie
