Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - white cell count

my lovely collie murphy went through AIHA 3 years ago and recovered after about 6 months. It reared its ugly head again about 3 months ago and we thought after initial good progress he would recover again. his red cell count began to lower however about 6 weeks ago, and we've been fighting ever since. this last week he's made a 50% ijmprovement from 20 to 30% red blood cells but his white cell count has shot from 30 to 55%. he is on imuran and preds and we feel (including the vet) completely stumped at his ability to maintain so many white cells whilst his medication should be holding them right down. any similar stories or options would be welcome as he is getting weaker by the day and we're getting desperate. thanks, ben.

My Lola also carries a big WBC count. My 3 docs didnlt seem to awfully worried since when she was initially dagnosed she had far too little. Lola is on Cyclosporine, Pred, Danazol, Doxycycline and prilosec. She was on Imuran for 3 weeks and then taken off.
Best of luck to you.

Ben -

When my dog began treatment, I remember one internist saying the elevated white count was consistent with steroid (prednisone) therapy.

I'm sorry to see you are going through this again with Murphy and I hope this elevated white count is nothing serious to be concerned about.
