| This should go on Brigittes lesson learned post. I alway have the vet fax me the blood results before I talk to the vet, didn't do that yesterday so now that Ihave it, I have a question. Thre is a lymphocyte # that is normal, well almost. range 12-30, Wylie is 13 Then here is an absolute lymphocyte range, 1000-4800, Wylies is 624 What does this signify? I looked up lymphocyte, and it says a low number signifies infection But what is the difference between regular lymphocyte and absolute? I cant find anything on what the absolute # is Thanks Laurie |

| Laurie, I think the 13 Wylie has means 13% of the white blood cells. The absolute count of 624 would sound normal if he is still on the immunosuppresants. I've been trying to keep Tessy's in the 400 range and she's been doing good with this number. A low absolute lymph count doesn't signify an infection but means that the body is at greater risk of getting an infection. The absolute counts is more what we want to monitor instead of the percentage of wbc the lymphs are. There's a slight possibility (and I really don't want to scare you) that low absolute counts could potentially signify cancer in patients but where Wylies system was suppressed I'ld more lean to the low count being there because of the drugs. Is he still on drugs? I hope I'm right here. Hopefully someone else can help to answer this question for you. Johnny & Tessy |

| Johnnie, thanks for the explanation, I read prednizone can reduce the the lymphocyte but she has been off meds since March. I posted on my other thread her WBC was 4.8 so a little low As for cancer, Wylie is 12 years old, so that is always a possibility and since she is running some kind of bacterial/viral infection now that could be why these numbers are what they are Her CBC has always been done in house so I have never seen a some of these. | Laurie, Not sure about the difference with the absolute, but Holly's WBC has always been on the low side in the low 4's for the last 2 1/2 years. Dr Dodds, just told me that many things make up this number and if all of those are good then she was fine. Linda |
