TC is now at 20mg pred 2x a day. He seems weaker than he did when he was on the larger dose of pred. He lays down very carefully, like his front legs are hurting him. I thought I read on a post that the weakness is more pronounced as the pred is lowered, anyone else had this happen? He had some arthritis in his front leg prior to this happening. I am giving him a holistic dog treat with glucosamine & chondroitin, is anyone else else giving their dog a G&C supplement? I don't want to overload him with vitamins, he is getting vitamin C & milk thistle. He has also developed a white spot on his tongue. Thank goodness we go to the vet on Monday, everthing scares me, I am like I was with my first child, watching him constantly.

Wendy, I went back and read some of your earlier posts on TC. Sounds like a case very similar to my GSD Popeye. Pop is currently on 10mg of Pred. 2x day, and now that I think about it, something similar did occur after Pred. reduct. He was initially given 20 mg of Pred. 2x a day. On Wednesday afternoon he was at vet for his initial post hospitalization check up, in pretty poor shape. His gut was extremely swollen, he was weak. Vet told me he thought he had cancer...that his organs were failing (we'd seen dark orange urine.) He told me to reduce the Pred. from 20mg2x to 10mg2x because it was hard on organs. Then he gave me something called Denosyl-225mg 1x daily. I think this is a similar product as milk thistle is supposed to be. Thursday was his all time worst day and night. That was the night I almost had him put down. (details are in an earlier post of mine-I think that was yesterday)...these days run together. Then Friday am he was greatly improved. Today he will actually get up to acknowledge your arrival. Tonight is the first time I have heard him bark if someone was passing by our house. Big progress. So it seems like his big crash (after initial incident was right at Pred reduction and biggest improvement was after addition of Denoysl. Maybe the vet was right about the Pred and his organs. At this point I don't think the vet is continuing cancer theory. It's back to AIHA. Another interesting side is the Ehrlichia - the tick thing. My vet has never actually tested for it. Dog is near end of antibiotic therapy anyway. Vet did not think it could be Ehrlichia because the region of country we're in has not seen it in years. (But we have seen ticks). Anyway, on the news TODAY they said an outbreak of tick borne Ehrlichia was discovered in this metro area and it was first they had seen here in many years. So here we are: AIHA-probably. Ehrlichia-I suppose it's possible Cancer- I really hope not and/or some combo of all 3... ???????????????? All I know for sure is he is getting better. Maybe switching from Milk Thistle to Denoysl could benefit your TC. My vet did say do not use both together. Who really knows..... This condition is nuts!

Can not say for sure where this awful illness comes from. It seems as diverse as the dogs it strikes. I have always used Advantage for Sam's flea/tick/heartworm. He never had an issue with it, so I thought. But if you look back, he has two forms of cancer, diagnosed just weeks before he was struck with AIHA. He has Mast Cell Tumor, and a tumor in his Adrenal gland. He also has epilepsy, and hypothyroidism. Yes, he is our "special needs" dog. Some times I do not understand this road, but I have learned, even with all of Sam's baggage, there is always one out there with more. Wish you good things. Becky and Sam (I Am)
