| Our little Patterdale/Jack Russell cross was diagnosed 18th March 2011. Following a blood transfusion, medication and lots of TLC she is coping fine. Vet recommended she be spayed before she next came into season as it was thought that hormonal changes were the trigger for this awful disease. She has come through the spay fine and is nearly back to how she was before this all hit - full of life and mischief! Now it is time for her yearly vaccination and I don't know what to do - vet understand and says I have to weigh things up. Would appreciate thoughts on this. Thanks Karen |

| Karen, I can understand your concern. My vet & I discussed doing titers on Tori becuse her 3-in-1 was due during her fight with IMHA. It was a good decision for us because Tori was protected by the previous shots and she will be tested every 3 years. She is now in remission, taking the lowest Prednisone dose once every 5 days and next month should be off it. She will always take Petinic because of the blood building prpoerties in it. Hope this helps. Others on this sight are so much more informed and will respond soon, too. Praying for you and your doggie! Blessings, Cindi & Tori (In remission from IMHA) |

| Karen, No. No more yearly boosters. Most of these vaccinations have nearly lifelong benefit. The one exception is the legally required rabies vaccination. Your local municipality and state laws may allow your vet to give you a temporary waiver of the rabies if it is due now. The following is Dr. Dodds new 2011 MINIMAL VACCINE USE. http://www.itsfortheanimals.com/DODDS-CHG-VACC-PROTOCOLS.HTM Also read this as well. http://www.weim.net/emberweims/Vaccine.html my best patrice |

| Hi Karen, I agree with the others and before long before I knew of AIHA/IMHA. All my dogs since Dylan have had limited vaccinations and are titered annually for antibodies, not boosted. Since My dogs are mostly at risk for Parvo and Distemper, this is all they were vaccinated against and have antibodies for, as measured in subsequent Titer tests. I will continue to measure them, but it is unlikely I will ever boost them, as this type of immunity is permanent. Rabies is different. So far every three years (never 2 and no need for 1) is currently required. Dr. Dodds is working on proving it lasts a lot longer (7 years and more). Since there is no rabbies around in dogs (species specific) in Canada (and US too I believe), I only do it to cross the border into the USA where it is required and into Europe. Anything there is a treatment for I don't vaccinate, never kennel cough either. Different areas, UK?, may required other vaccines to be considered, but the same principle applies, minimum use. | Thanks to all for your info - I've found it very useful - no booster for Smudgie. Karen |
