Our family just returned from a weekend volunteering at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary down in Kanab. Tiggs was able to come with us, though I am still paranoid that he might get an infection from the dog slober that I'm sure was all over me (though he had no direct contact with any Sanctuary dogs and I washed my hands obsessively). Here are some pics, and hopefully the system won't boot me as it did last time: http://flickr.com/photos/dzinelvrslc/sets/72157609842965559/

I heard a lot about Best Friends, andWow, what a beautiful place. The picture of Angels resit with the sun streaming is so surreal brought tears. You are so lucky to have been able to visit Laurie

Melissa, What a great weekend that must have been. My husband and I have talked about wanting to do that but we already have 4 dogs and know we would want to bring more home so I safely send then donations from afar. Ha! What a fantastic organizaion they are. Penny

Melissa, I loved seeing these photos. Goodness, Tiggs is such a beauty! I absolutely loved the picture of him with his head out the window of the bus. I'm thinking about escaping my mourning to spend some time there. Nothing better than volunteering to make one feel better! Thanks again for this uplifting note!

Sharon, you would love it. It is a life changing experience. We can't wait to go back, and have scheduled another visit in January. Amazing place, amazing animals, amazing people. I really can't say enough. We laughed, we cried, we celebrated all of the animals there. Next time we plan to get a dog sitter so we can do doggie sleepovers! That's right, you can take sanctuary dogs that need extra love, attention, and socialization overnight!

Melissa -- thanks for sharing your visit to Best Friends with us. I've been a supporter, but haven't been able to get there, so you've provided additional reinforcement that I'm doing the right thing. Did you get to meet any of the pit bulls that came from Michael Vick's possession? The Best Friends magazine has had some great stories on these dogs and how their rehab is progressing. My best to you and to Tiggs. He is a gorgeous boy.

Melissa, Thanks for sharing those wonderfully inspiring pics of the Animal Sanctuary. It looks like a beautiful place and those dogs'personalities just pop out in the photos. I wish I could adopt every one of them. Your dogs are so precious! I loved the pics of your house, also. You do have good decorating taste. I pray Tiggs continues to do well. Karen

Thank you everyone for checking out the pics, I still cannot stop thinking about that place, and even though I have my hands full with two goofy pitties- one sick one and one old one, I can't help but try to think of finding a way to bring home another! Brenda, the Vicktory Dogs as they are now called, are still off limits to volunteers and visitors per court order. BF wants to do everything right since all eyes are on them to see if this rehabilitation is a success. The closest we got was driving by them. One of the staff did say though that there may be a few dogs that are getting close to being ready for adoption, how wonderful is that?! I hope that some of you have the opportunity to visit someday. I snapped a pic of Tiggs there and I think he looked happier and healthier than he has in months...the place is just magic!
