We found out yea!!! Its Denosyl (sam e)! As I have posted before Wylie was has been losing weight (3# in 3 weeks) and hair and getting progressively worse, As of lastvisit on 8/5, even the vet tech couldnt believe how bad she looked. Its like someone took a vaccuum and sucked the fat and moisture out of her body and gobs of hair coming out. She was in for the latest round of tests since the TPI TLI and vitamin b tests all came back negative. This day the tests were hypo-hyperthyroid, addisons and ultrasound of her stomach and they did a mange culture. We went over what she was on which was Denosyl, pancreazymes, vitamin b and e and salmon oil and rotation of a multi-vitamin and pet tinic along with her diet of 50% homemade and 50% Royal canin vennison and potato. The vet was grasping at straws and said while we wait for these tests to come back lets take her off Denosyl. So thats what I did and within a few days I noticed her fur not coming out as much and a few days after that moisture returning to her body. The vet called Monday to say negative on the latest tests and we discussed her sudden improvement after going off Denosyl, He said Denysol has no known side effects and extremely safe and cant explain the improvement but said with diseases you never know and agreed that Denosyl is the cause. So today on 8/15 she is barely shedding, her coat looks good and she has gained 3# since the 5th!!! Laurie

Thought I would give another update. Wylie looks fantastic! her PVC is holding at 38. So she was one of the rare cases where Denosyl(sam e) caused bad side effects. Even though I spent lots of $$ on tests trying to pinpoint the cause, and it turned out as something as simple as a denosyl reaction. I am SO HAPPY she is doing so well. After her splenectomy, I thought she would always have that sausage bloated look, but yet gaunt near the hindquarters. She has totally filled in. gaining another 2#. I think I need to cut down on her food as she is heading toward the chunky monkey she was before her splenectomy. Laurie

Laurie, I am glad that Wylie is doing better and also now people will know that there is possibly a connection to problems in some dogs using the Denosyl. It seems to be a very rare reaction but good to know. Penny
