Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Update on Maggie

Maggie was diagnosed at the end of Dec. It's been a long journey since with daily medications and going to the vet every couple of weeks since for blood tests. At the last appt her blood is now at 51, that's up from the 15 she was in Dec. The vet weaned her off prednisone gradually and she's been med free for a couple of weeks now. Next week she goes in for another blood check and hopefully she'll remain healthy from here on in. Maggie was lucky and so were we. I wish the same success for all dogs diagnosed with this horrible disease.

I forgot to mention that Maggie is back to her playful self. Toys all over the house, and very active. The only thing that is still a little worrisome is she exerts quicker or it sounds like because she goes into panting. This could be from the heart murmur she developed when she had her anemia. But like I said she is very energetic and it didn't show until she got off prednisone completely.

Dorri,
What wonderful news! I am so happy for you and Maggie.
It must be great to see her playful self back. Hopefully the heart murmur will resolve itself.

Dorri -- congratulations to you and Maggie. It is always wonderful, and reassuring, to hear success stories where beloved dogs and their families can overcome IMHA. Love that girl every minute!

Dori & Maggie

How lucky you both are to have extra time to spend with each other - I know you will cherish every 'healthy' moment - I can only dream of such a scenario for Phoebe and myself - but even tho' she is very poorly i still have her with me!!! every day a blessing.

Wishing you both long and happy walks, love and licks.

Best wishes

kind regards

Thats great news for Maggie & yourself...

Madison has made the same excellent progress and is back to her normal energetic cheeky self. She has been off Pred for 3 weeks now. Madison also has the same breathing issue but the vet said once she loses weight and gets fitness back it should all settle down.
