Just wanted to say that Holly is doing much better. No more hives, vomiting or blood in stool. We switched to all natural soap detergent, steam cleaned our rugs, with all natural cleaner, and today we visited a new pet store in our nearest town. She is still getting 1/2 tablet of the Clemastine daily because if not she is itching and biting. So still have a problem. So now time to switch dog food. Had a nice chat witht the lady there, seemed to be very knowledgable. She agreed that yes dogs can build up allergies to dog food, even though we were feeding Holly Natural Balance (All Natural). She suggested Calfornia Natural Lamb Meal & Rice and we also talked a lot about HPPI, http://www.healthypetdiet.com/, it is all raw diet frozen either in blocks or strips. She also suggested Harriw Pet Dophilus (probiotic supplement) to help her balance her intestinal problems. So we decided on the Calfornia Natural Lamb & Rice to start and did purchase some of the freeze dried raw diet treat sticks. She also suggested nothing else but this for the first month, no bannanas, apples, green beans or anything to try and cleanse her system. My questions are does anyone else use Calfornia Natural, has anyone used the healthy pet diet, and the Pet dophilus?? The frozen raw diet sounded good to us because easier to use rather then all natural fresh, but I wanted to check first and see if anyone had used it? Thanks for any info. Linda

Linda, good to hear the hives are clearing up, and there's no more vomiting or blood in the stool. I can't help you with the California Naturals....I feed Tessy a home cooked diet for her liver. Like to hear what you find out though for future reference. High paws to Holly from Tessy. Johnny & Tessy

| Linda, glad to hear Holly is doing better. Wylie is on the chicken version of California natural and really likes it. Did you find a smaller bite version? I think the chunks are almost too big for Wylie and she is a medium size dog I also have her on a combiniation probiotic/digestive blend from B naturals. That healthy pet product looks like a great product, you are getting the chicken one right? My other dog a 12 year old lab was on beef raw for years with fantastic results, unfortunately I recently had to take him off due to liver problems, which beef is not good for and he can't eat lamb or chicken, seems he is allergic, so he is on a dried fish kibble. | Laurie, The Lamb & Rice formula is small bites and of course Holly I think swallows them whole, she never chews any of her food, we just don't know what to do to get her to eat slower. The owner of the Pure Pets store suggested this because good for allergies, but know you have me thinking is this bad for Holly's liver?? Her liver counts are still high, well in the 400 range. Of course when we talked in lengths to the owner of the pet store, I am not sure if I mentioned about Holly's liver count, Yikes! It is always something. I think I am going to continue with the lamb kibble and in another 2 weeks or so, going to try and make an appointment with this new Holistic vet in town. The 18th will be almost a month since off of the prednisone and concerned about this Clemistine that we have been giving her, even thought just 1/2 tablet. I might even skip tomorrow and see if she is any worse with the biting and scratching. The Pet store lady said if we did start on the Frozen raw diet she would start with the beef first, not sure why?? But again, I don't think we discussed Holly's liver count. Just would love to find something that both are dogs are okay with, as our other one (chihuahua) seems to have a problem with anything with fish in it. Linda |

Linda, please don't give Holly the beef with liver values that high. Actually you don't want to give beef at at all with AIHA dogs because it makes the liver work much harder. So if you do start, do the chicken., You want a good quality protein with low ammonia. here is a very good article on a liver diet http://www.b-naturals.com/newsletter/liver/ Wylie is in the 400 range and she is off meds, I started her on Bioprep about 3 weeks ago since they said it helps with liver disease. I took her in yesterday for her test and waiting today for her ALT results, I am hoping to see them down. Is Holly still on any AIHA meds? My vet seems very concerned with Wylies ALT being in the 400 range and wants to do further invasive testing. I say she is around 12 years old, she absolutely hates the vet, and I won't put her through that, I hate just taking her to get her HCT as it is. Laurie

Have you tried anything such as denamarin/samE/denosyl(sp?)/etc for the high liver values? I feed Tessy a pretty good liver diet and it isn't that hard to do. Her liver values fluctuate from time to time but never really go to high. Her ALT has gone above the reference range maybe a few times since she's been sick and it always comes back down. I feed her quite a bit of food when she wants it and her weight has remained the same throughout her sickness (+/- a couple pounds). Oh...and she also gets some boiled hamburger mixed in with her food. Doesn't seem to affect her values. Not sure why. Dry food swalled whole EH.....I've got that problem with almost all my dogs! Now I sit it in water over night and it softens it right up. Johnny & Tessy

Oops, I put my previous post as Linda. Linda, I think you mentioned previously Holly was on doxy long term, is she still on it? I think I recall even though its a great drug, it can raise the ALT, but goes back down when off of it. Johnny, We had Wylie on denamirin last year and she had a very rare bad reaction to it. She was dramatically losing weight and hair. Looked like a vacuum was sucking the life out of her. It took the vet 2 months and about $1000 worth of tests to rule out everything and he said what the heck the only thing left is the denamirin, lets take her off of it. The results were almost instananeous, within 3 days she had luster back in her coat and 7 days later she had gained 2#. Now she is back to a chunky monkey! I still have her on the mirin, it was the Sam E part she had the reaction to. Laurie
