| It has been a long time since I posted about Chloe (Golden retriever, age 4).She has now made it 13 months thanks mostly to Dr.Dodds and willpower. After her 2nd relapse in Dec, her pred was back up to high levels and cyclosporine up to 200 mg.This time her cyclosporine has been reduced 25 mg/every two weeks (with weekends off). Her pred is now at 5 mg and Dr. Dodds has her staying at 35 mg of cyclosporine daily. Her sky high liver values are now normal-Yay! But her hct which was at 47 has dropped to 44 & she is now in a holding pattern with the drugs. Her lymphocytes have climbed up to 3020,monocytes & eosinophils to 906,neutrophils up to 10268. The lower the cyclosporine, the higher her lymphocytes which I guess means that her immune system is not as well suppressed. She still has the pendulous belly from the iactrogenic Cushing's but no worry about ascites because her liver is okay. The calcium tumors are slowly decreasing in size with the use of DMSO. When she is asleep I no longer fear she is comatose! She sleeps thru the night now which is great. I don't think she is going to be one of the dogs that gets off drugs but that is okay.Good thing I bought Lixotinic in a gallon jug! It is a miracle she is alive after all-PCV of 9 and dropping, 8 units of blood, ICU,oxygen, etc and three vets telling me to put her down. She never was very energetic, so being a couch potato now suits her personality.I think her survival was just meant to be and I know she is one of the lucky ones.We made it this far because of the support of this forum and finding out about Dr.Dodds, so I want to thank you all for saving Chloe (plus a big helping of divine override). | Cheri, Congrats to you and Chloe! While it would be wonderful to get off the drugs it looks like you have found a dosage that is working for her. I think you have to give yourself a ton of credit for pulling her through when so many "experts" were telling you to stop. Penny |
