Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Update from Kent and Merry Christmas wishes

Kent and I hope everyone on this board had a wonderful christmas and we send best wishes for the New Year. This board has been a wonderful resource for us as we battle this last year with this horrible disease. We are very thankful for all the advice and support from those here and particularly grateful to Joanne for her efforts through this board and her website. I've been fortunate to find others i could call and talk to when i need advice or just want to vent, and I am very very thankful these holidays.

Kent has improved since his relapse in November. He spent 5 days in hospital, had one transfusion, and came home back on Prednisone. His blood count went from 38 to 32, and he is now on Imuran since last week. He also gets tagamet in the evenings, as well as milk thistle and pet-tinic. We have changed his diet - he wont touch the prescription WD- to Dodds Liver Cleansing Diet with a mix of hills sensitive stomach. He loves the fresh fish, just goes bananas over it. He has at least one apple a day, and gets biscuits made out of canned WD baked, though sometimes he gets the Newman biscuits. His liver is very swollen and has become uncomfortable sleeping on his side, which used to be his favorite position. He is pulling through, though its been tough on him. He is still himself, just a little slower now, and a little more spoiled :).

Happy Holidays to All!
