Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Trooper off to the ICU
| Our border collie Trooper, 8y8m diagnosed 12/11/07- had a "hot spot" that she was licking. She is on prednisone, imuran and pepcid. It had looked a bit drier because we had covered it in a soft wrap. Friday nite 3/28 - her leg looked swollen (above the wrap)...To the vet on Saturday am...negative xray, normal temp...started on antibiotics. This morning won't get up....she is on her way to the center in New York...45 minutes from here...30 minutes from now...refused meds today....but took a treat... Our hearts are broken....I am so afraid that this is it...all the kids gave her a hug and a kiss goodbye.. I hate this disease.... I apologize to all that look here for hope...If someone has come back from an infection....now is the time I would need to hear it.. sobbing.... |

| Chris, My thoughts and heart are feeling your pain. Molson was diagnosed 12/17/07 and went to his freedom on 3/25/08. This is such a difficult disease. | Chris, It depends on what is causing the problems. A lot of dogs on here have managed to fight off multiple infections. It is always a worry when their immune systems have been so compromised by the drugs. I am hoping for the best for your dear Trooper. Please keep us posted. |

| around the hot spot is an abscess....they drained it and are keeping her overnight.. we are blessed to have a full service ICU 45 minutes away...I called at 4pm...she got there at 10 am..and she was stable. My husband and son took her..so all the details are not as clear.,..but the pcv looked fine... thanks for reaching out...I am still on needles...(not even pins...just all needles....) that she will remain stable. She walked outside with a little encouragement and ate. Have I mentioned how much I hate this disease... Lesson learned...any whisper of infection...any hint...off for antibiotics.. |
