Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Trooper is better!!!

Thanks for your support this week.
Trooper IMHA 12/11/07 our 8yo female border collie developed an abscess and infection Saturday 3/28 - from a hot spot on the leg, that she licked. She was in the hospital overnight, on IV antibiotics and fluids. Home...amazingly the next day....The culture grew a staph sensitive to clavamox (like augmentin in humans)....resistant to baytril (like cipro)....
I include that info...only I don't know if we know what these pups are more at risk for than others.
So, she has spent the week with a full leg wrap...and we are cautiously watching the healing go on...(dressing changes every 2 days)...healing will be slow with the pednisone and imuran. PCV was good...I am anxious to check it next week....
She is happy...despite the elizabethean collar and leg wrap...
We have hope today where it was gone last week.

Chris,
Good for Trooper! It always helps to post anything that might help someone else. Dealing with the AIHA is bad enough but all the things that become part of the fight because of their suppressed immune systems are as important to know about.
