Since Trixie came home 2 days ago she is really quite, well she was before she went to hospital but is even more so, I hate seeing her like this. Today she went for her PCV test, she was 26% when she left the hosptial, today it reads at 25%, a slight drop. The Vet sent some blood to Bristol this afternoon, this is for the white cells, to see if they have improved since she was in hospital. They will have the results tomorrow, I'll call Bristol late afternoon. She seems so much more weaker than before, it seems to be an effort for her to even go out in the garden, poor baby :+( I just wish I could build up her strength. Tricia x

Hi Tricia. I'm wondering if it is the prednisone (as well as being anemic) that is causing the weakness and lethargy in Trixie. While Duck was on high doses of prednisone, we didn't bother trying to take him for walks because he just wasn't up to it. He would lie around all day just staring into space. Once we were able to start lowering the prednisone, his energy and strength really came back and he regained his quality of life. As far as exercising him, we took his lead and went for walks when he wanted to. Now I can barely keep up with him. Hang in there. And I hope you get good news from the clinic in Bristol. deb and Duck

Hi Debbie. Trixie seems to be much like Duck was, it's good to know that improvement will come. Yes, the Prednisone is probably the main cause of Trixie being so weak/tired. The did also tell me not to bother taking her on walks, she is limited to the back garden now. I know they can't reduce the Pred yet, but hopefully once her blood count goes up considerably, they will be able to do that. I'll let you know her WBC results tomorrow. Tricia

Hi Tricia Just thought I would share with you what we went through and still are to some degree. Cassie too was very tired the first few weeks but once her preds came down we saw some improvement. She is still not the lively baby girl she was but we do now take her out for walks. We find if we don't she stumbles as the preds make her muscles weak. There are days when all she seems to want to do is lay in the conservatory with that look of "I really can't be bothered to do anything today" We have found though that although we never force her to go out for walks, when we do go out she seems to improve. We know when she wants to go out because we ask her (yes we do talk to her and she understands). She is going for a blood test today and a check on her PCV levels which hopefully will be as good as two weeks ago. We have found though that the PCV checks at the vets are 1% or 2% different from those that Bristol check. It sounds like Trixie is going exactly the same way as Cassie so have faith in the knowledge that it's not unusual for them to have their down days. I hope this helps and as we all know its a long hard road for all of us so keep us posted on Trixies progress. Steve & Sue

We had the results today from Bristol and according to Natasha, she seems quite pleased with the results. Sorry, but I am hopeless at remembering numbers, she said Trixie has gone from 3.5 to 11. 2 ??? she continues to regenerate her red blood cells! yayaaaa. The fact that Trixie, last night, actually wandered down to the end of the garden was very encouraging, Natasha was happy to hear that and of course Trixie has not been panting since she came home. I shall take her for another Blood test in 5 days and see what that brings. Her gums are looking pinkish, not as pink as they should be, but much better than they were. Tricia P.S Steve and Sue, please refresh my memory as to when Cassie first came down with AIHA, when were you able to reduce her Pred and what was her PCV, when the Pred was reduced, thanks.

Awesome news, with daisy it took a few weeks the first time for her to get back to herself and with this most recent bought her actions changed with her PCV count and she still is not acting like her normal self even though her count is at 32. It takes time but what is important is she is home with you and her count is going in the right direction. your all in my prayers and Daisy's too
