Tori has been doing great...or at least I thought so, but we had a CBC done this afternoon and everything was normal, except her PLT (platelets) 48 K/ul and it should be between 175-500! The vet also did a smear test to make sure and it has been confirmed that she has Thrombocytopenia. Her prednisone has be increased to 5 mg every 3 days. Will do another blood smear after a week and see if it comes up. I understand this is also an immunne condition and her blood may not clot if she bleeds. Her PCV was 40% and that is a good thing. I remember reading several posts from those of you who's pets recovered from IMHA only to get this. Please let me know what to expect... We so hoped we were "out of the woods". Thanks. Oh, little girl seems quite happy and healthy...only the platelets are unhealthy!!!!! Blessings, Cindi & Tori

| Oh no Cindi! HUGS Such a difficult thing to find on a blood test! I know cause the exact same thing just happened to Tessy the other week (but hers was from the chemo she's on). It's a real punch to the gut I know! If I were you I'd get the blood checked after 3-5 days. This'll give you an idea as to where things are heading. Ask them to take the blood from the jugular also. With platelets the numbers are usually more accurate when taken from there. Might be wise to start with the hematinics again...pet tinic?? If the numbers are still down then you may want to consider further diagnostics to find a trigger....ultrasounds, tick panel, etc. Please do keep us posted and give Tori some hugs and scritches for me! | I am so sorry to hear about Tori. Wylie had this twice when she was in remission from AIHA. My vet suspected tick disease, the in house panel showed negative and we opted not to send out for the big test as she teted positive before from a strain that does not show on on the inhouse tick panel. So both times they decided to treat with doxycyclene (antibiotic that is specific to tick diseases and ner platelet numbers skyrocketed in a few days, so you might ask about that. Take care Laurie |

Thanks, guys. Yes, it was a shock, because Tori isn't feeling bad at all. We do not have ticks in this part of FL, but will keep that in mind. Blood work will probably be done on Weds. Johnny...that's 5 days out and a couple of extra doses of Pred. I think the vet wanted a few doses in her to see if it really was helping so the could add something else if necessary. She tested negative for tick disease last year, and took Doxy then just in case. but she could have had a recent bite...don't know. I can ask next time I see the vet. They told me she was in a cautious remission 4 months ago from the IMHA. This immune disease is a real "bummer" but I will stay positive and always hopeful. Thanks and give your doggies a hug from Tori & me. Blessings, Cindi & Tori

Yeah, the doxy may be a good idea as a precaution but if it were me I'd want to know if indeed it was a tick disease causing it. I'd recheck the blood BEFORE doing or adding anything! Keep us posted, Johnny & Tessy

Yes, Johnny, I would ask about the blood test first. And Tori is still taking Petinic. Tori seems to be fine. It's hard to look at her after her near death experience a year ago August and grasp the new danger for her. Praying for the platlets to increase. The reality of this disease is just mind boggling. Thanks so much for your encouragement, my friends. Give your doggies a hug for us. B;essings, Cindi & Tori

Cindi, I am so sorry Tori is having additional problems but glad that you are still seeing a "quite healthy and happy" girl. I will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers. Penny

Thanks to ALL of you for your prayers and encouragement! Tori had another blood test and her platelets have increased to 87 from 48. The vet has increased the Prednisone to 5 mg every other day. Our little poodle girl only weighs 9 lbs. So far, she hasn't shown much change, but I am concerned as the Pred begins to increase, so will the side effects of the meds. So far her PVC was 43 and that is good. Just pray the platelets stablize quickly. Her RBC has slipped from 5.61 to 4-96. And the WBC has slipped from 8.13 to 5.81. We didn't discuss this change, since we are going again next week. Needless to say, we are concerned. Praying for you and your doggies! Thanks for the prayers for us. Blessings, Cindi
