Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Toqua is home

I finally got the phone call on Wednesday. I was starting to get worried. I went to the vet to pick up her ashes. It was quite surreal to think that "Toqua" was in that box, and it was a sad drive home. However, arriving home this sense of peace just came over me. She's home. I haven't cried about her since although I still miss her terribly. I feel that now the healing is beginning.

Her ashes are in this beautiful wooden box with a plaque that has her name, and "forever faithful.........forever at peace" on it. They also sent a certificate stating that it is Toqua and she was given a private cremation service. I was expecting some shotty wooden crate type box, so this was a very pleasant surprise. To know that she was respected through the whole process. That these people know she is not "just a dog" to me.

Fin has stepped up to fill the role as lead dog. He is still the goofy boy I love so dearly, but he has this new, sudden maturity about him. Although he is being a huge suck right now because he sliced his toe open while we were camping. His first booty. Good thing I am well prepared. Toqua was constantly slicing her feet, so I am well stocked. I found that our local tack shop sells those stick to themselves bandages that vets use for wrapping dog feet. They cost like $2 a roll! After about the 15th time of Toqua cutting her foot I knew the drill, but never had that wonderful bandage. So, now we don't have to pay the $80 vet bills to have their feet wrapped. So, now that Fin's foot is wrapped he is being such a baby. He doesn't like walking with it. Wait til the water hound finds out he can't go swimming!! :)

Jessi,
I agree having them home makes such a difference and does really help start the healing process. The plaque is really an added touch. Sorry to hear that Fin has sliced his toe but how lucky you were to find an easy cheap solution. Have a wonderful weekend.

I hope the days are getting easier for you as time passes. It sounds like having Toqua home is helping, as it helped me to have Riley home.

That vet wrap stuff is amazing, I'm going to have to look for it next time I'm at he feed store!! Thanks for the tip.

I too hope things are getting easier for you and the family. Good to hear Fin is stepping up and handling it as well as he is! Poor fellow...no swimming!!! LOL

Thanks to Jennifer for putting in touch with Jennifer Price (haha Jennifer and Jennifer, that's not confusing). I sent her some of Toqua's ashes to have glass beads done. Just got the pictures today and they are on their way to me. I can't wait. She did them with amber glass and they look like Toqua's bright amber eyes.

The past few days have been hard. Not sure why, it has been three weeks now since we lost our dear Toqua. It's like, OK, it's been three weeks without her, it's been long enough! I want her back. So, I know having these beads will be a great comfort.

I would really recommend to anyone who is planning a cremation of their dog to look into this. Miss Price is such a great lady. And her work is AMAZING!! I know these beads will be with me everywhere I go.

Thanks again for all your kind words during some really tough days.

Jessi, I am glad you are as pleased with the beads as I was with mine! I echo what you say about Jennifer Price and her work. My beads with Riley's ashes have brought me great comfort. I wear the bracelet I made with them everywhere I go.

Another suggestion would be to also check out this link
www.footandpaw.com/
You can have clippings of your beloved pets hair put inside the bracelet. They have walked the same path that everyone on this board has walked and they donate part of every sale to Meisha's Hope. I ordered my bracelet about a month after I lost my Salome and I can't explain the peace that came over me once I put it on. As in the description of the bracelet I ordered "our 2 hearts are separated but she still walks with me"
