Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Toffee died in my arms

My darling Shih Tzu, Toffee, died of this tragic disease. She was only nine years old and her red blood cell count was improving, so I was not expecting her death. Toffee was lethargic all day. When we went to bed, she started gasping for air. I prayed for God to help her and called animal emergency. They said to bring her right in, but she died while I was on the phone. She did not suffer long and she died in my arms in bed with me. She was my best friend. It is very painful loosing her. I feel so sad and lonely without her, and I miss her.

My prayers are with all of you who continue your fight against this terrible disease. Thanks for your sharing and your support.

Dear Susan, My heart goes out to you and your family. I am so sorry that your Toffee had to die at such a young age. This disease does not care if you are young or old, it affects all ages.
I am the webmaster that have been putting the sad news
of the deaths on this forum. Yours is the last one I will be adding as I have run out of space. You can go and visit the Rainbow Bridge site at any time, and if you want Toffee's picture added to the In Honor Of Page, just contact me at the address shown. In our life time we have lost four of our fur friends, One of which was to AIHA. Lady was her name, and she was just 6 years old.The web page was created in honor of her. Sadly I have to quit doing the page as there is no more room to do so. Please try to remember all the good times you had with Toffee in the 9 years you had with her. I will be remembering you and yours in my thoughts and prayers. Take care and find Peace, Dolores

OMG, how tragic! I'm so sorry! I wasn't able to get to my girl in time and wish I could've been there. So in that way I'm glad she was with you when she passed. I wish we had answers and hopefully by the grace of God, Meisha's Hope and the MAF we'll get there. Again, I'm so sorry.

Let it be of some comfort that she died peacefully in the arms of the one that she loved so much. I am sure that would have been her final wish.

You are not alone, my pup Shea died less than two weeks ago after only being sick for less than a week. She too, died peacefully in the home that she loved.

They will all be loved and missed forever.

God Bless, Irene

Susan, I am so sorry to hear this news about your beloved Toffee. This is a horrible horrible disease, and it takes our furbabies away far too fast.
I lost Kent this week, a two year survivor of AIHA, but he couldnt beat a mass that was swiftly crowding his heart.
Please accept my heartfelt condolences,
Christine, and Angel Kent

Dear Susan -- I am sorry to hear that you lost your dear Toffee to this horrible disease. I hope you take comfort knowing that you did all that you could for her, and that her last moments on earth were filled with your love as you held her in your arms. Your memories of your wonderful life together will comfort you in the time ahead. Please take care and let us know how you're doing.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I know Toffee is in a really good place playing with Drago and all the other dogs that have gone before her.

The hurt will never go away but it will get bearable.

When I hear stories of losses I still cry and think of my girl Drago.

Again my deepest sympathy.
