Toby's blood test tonight showed that his HCT has slipped even further. It was 22 on Friday and is now 20. He's on prednisolone, azathioprine, and started cyclosporine on 11/29. He's also taking cephalexin, baytril, and the vet added doxycycline today. I don't know what else to do. He gets up to eat and go outside, but other than that he just lies there. I feel like I'm running out of time and am getting really desperate. Karen H.

Karen, just know you are doing all that's medically possible. Love Toby every minute and let him know how much that is. I am grateful for the time I spent with Brandy .......every minute, almost 24/7 for days. I know she felt the love. Prayers for both of you as you put the results in God's hands. Blessings for peace and strength sharon and angel Brandy

Karen, I'm so sorry - hang in there. I was in that place once with running out of time with my dog. Have you e-mailed Dr. Dodds for any suggestions? If you think he's nauseaous is there anything the vet could reduce for awhile or what about that nausea medicine? I wish I had answers - hang in there and give him kisses from us Chris & Alex

Karen, I sympathize with you. I just got back from the vet and Willie's number has dropped from a 30 this morning to 22 this evening. The vet just introduced azethioprine. Very discouraging. I'm just going to consider every day that I get with Willie at this point a major gift. He may break some all-time records for being spoiled! (although I'm sure he's got some serious competition on this site)

Karen, I promise that I'll be praying for you and Toby. I know how you're feeling. Darcy's PCV was 13% last week and we go tomorrow for another blood test. I'm praying hard for God's continued healing and protection on her, as you must be for Toby. Darcy's gums are pale, but her clinical signs are good. Toby's sound good, too, since he is eating and going out to potty. Are his gums very pale? I know that the anemia makes them tired, but I think the meds can do that, too. I've noticed that Darcy is sleeping and lying around more since the Atopica dose was doubled. When all of this started with Darcy, God laid a bible verse on my heart -- Joshua 1:9. I was amazed when I read it and I have memorized it by heart. Kisses for Toby, Karen

Karen, All any of us can do while fighting this is to pray a lot and hope for the best. It sounds like you and Toby are doing your part and hopefully with all the additional prayers you will see a good change soon. Penny

When Chance was on very high doses of cyclosporine I noticed after he got his dose he would lie very still and he seemed to be almost in a kind of daze. I did some research and discovered that this can be a side effect in humans at high doses... a sort of psychosis or confusion. After a few hours he seemed to recover from this. I found as the dosage decreased so did this odd side effect. patrice
