Thank you all very much for the comments. Johnny is so right - I know nothing about what is being done for Jack, medicines, blood levels, etc., but will get all this information tomorrow and post it. When the vet first called and told me he had ES, she read me off a lot of stuff about his blood that I didn't understand or write down. I probably stopped listening to her after she told me his autoimmune system was killing itself. Now that I've done more research, I know what questions to ask so I can better understand what is going on with him. They did have him on IV's but I honestly don't know if he is still on them. I have been to distraught to even think clearly since Wednesday. As far as the financial aspect, I'll have to discuss all this with the vet tomorrow. She did indicate they would work with me. I don't think I could go $15,000 like Johnny did though. And still end up losing my pet. Sorry Johnny, no offense meant in any way. I guess we all just have to get real with ourselves and do what we think is best in our own unique situation, no matter what anyone else does or thinks. Thanks for the encouragement though, I sincerely appreciate it. Mary

No offence taken Mary. TEssy was a unique case and there were LOTS of costs that could have and should have been cut but I just didn't know better! Another thing to take into consideration is the fact that this disease will likely draw the two of you together and make a bond like like other! It WILL make you a better person....I can almost guarantee you this BUT like you said above...there really is only so much a person can do. Only you can decide what the best course of action is BUT remember that you have a whole bunch of help and support here to back you up. Ask us questions, vent frustrations, rant, ....do whatever you like. We've all been here and understand what you are dealing with. HUGS Johnny Tessy & Sadie

We have all walked in your shoes before you and I would defiantly give Jack a chance. My Golden Ginger was diagnosed in 2007 and still with me today, she is 11 years old and the effects of the steroids go away once they dosage is reduced or removed. If Jack seem to be responding the pred ( cheap med)then please try to continue to treat him, see if he can come home and you can provide the care he needs there. I signed up for carecredit and paid a monthly fee http://www.carecredit.com/ and if you can pay it off in a 12 month period no interest. Ask your vet about pet tinic, I just orders some for $9.00 a bottle. So once he comes home you can arrange to have his blood check once a week as long as he continues to do well then you can go to once every two weeks and then once a month and then maybe once every 2 months. There is another drug Azathioprine that is often used with the pred and that is not very expensive either. Good Luck and let us know how he is doing today. Cheryl & Ginger
