Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Tess good news update- long overdue

It has been far too long.....

I send my thoughts and prayers out to all of you fighting the fight.

First and foremost, Tess is still with us and still a happy, rambunctious little girl at the age of 8 and a bit. You can see her story on the Meisha's Hope site, November 2007.

We have finally identified the trigger (ragweed) to her yearly relapse of ITP, although we have still never determined what brought on the initial onset of Evans Syndrome (IMHA and ITP occuring at the same time) in the December 2004.

It took years but we finally tracked down the correct cocktail to keep Tess in remission for both the ITP and the IMHA. She is on a daily 0.65ml dose of cyclosporine, 5mg of Prednisone EOD and from the start of July to the first frost 12.5mg of Benadryl twice per day. (Tess weighs about 30 lbs)

Tess is energetic and playful and has not really slowed down. She naps a little more than she used to but when it's time to play, there is no holding her back. Of course, she is especially spoiled being our miracle puppy, but don't we spoil the ones we love?

I remember the initial diagnosis (less than a week) and when she went into remission (maybe 1-2 years if you are lucky). Well Tess (and her mom and dad) are fighters, it is almost 6 years later and she is still going strong. We made it through our first 12 month period with no relapse last month!

I know that many of you are going through the worst of things right now, but there is hope, don't give up the fight.

Hi Claudine
So nice to read some good news. I am so happy for you and Tess. Your story inspires those of us still fighting IMHA. Mercedes is only 5 months into the battle, but she is doing extremely well. We just sent a new batch of blood to Dr. Dodds yesterday, and am hoping to get some really good news this time around. Cross your fingers, toes, etc. for us!
