Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Sway still holding a 23% ... 52nd day of hold

even 2 weeks after her retic count spiked to 7.24 which showed regeneration for the first time, her % has still remained the same...no rise, no fall.
such a unique case!!!
i cant complain tho because we are still holding strong

Josh,

Well that is still great news that she is holding strong and regenerating! Yes you are correct a very unique case, which will probably take some time to correct itself.

Holly says go Sway! Keep on fighting!

Josh,
How is Sway doing aside from her numbers? She is indeed a fighter as you are too. Hopefully she can regain her quality of life and maybe because of all she has been through her number may stay on the low side? Unique indeed! Go Sway!

Josh -

So happy to see your news about Sway! From where you've been with her, holding stable for this amount of time must feel great, even though you aren't where you ultimately want to be.

Murray's PCV held solid in the low 20's from a week after his dignosis for a good 12 weeks before it started to creep up (he had been diagnosed with non-regenerative IMHA at the level of the marrow - Dr. Dodds agreed with that diagnosis). He hit his high (post-IMHA) of 40 in mid-October and was at 36.9 this week. We didn't go through all you have with Sway but just wanted to reassure you some dogs take a lot longer and you never know what the trigger is for them to turn the corner. While you are waiting, I hope you and Sway are doing well and she continues to regain her strength.

Take care,
Bonnie

thanks everybody...
yea, we are good...
sway is doing really well and is getting back to her normal self.
she has gained 8 pounds and only her skull remains really skeletal.
she is going up and down stairs, jumping into and off of the bed, and even yesterday we were having a tugging match with her chew toys.
she is also eating very well.
i have faith her # will eventually go up and am content with the hold.
only reason i was suprised of the latest results is because her retic count sprung up incredibly high and she started regeneration for the first time since diagnosis, so i had an assumption her % might rise a little.
dr. dodds is still well informed of where we are and is ok with it, we are just going with it.
the # will rise eventually i believe

Josh -- congratulations on Sway's progress. The two of you are amazing fighters, and it's good to know that Dr. Dodds is in your camp to help. Please take care and keep us informed.

Choe was disgnosed August 2006. It took until March,2007 for his hct to climb from the 20's into the thirties and not until June 2007 until it hit 40. It's tough to be patient, but as long as Sway's clinical signs continue to improve don't drive yourself crazy with the number reading. Glad to hear the news. Playing tug of war is always a good sign!
