| Sunny's prednisone was lowered two weeks ago. Lab work results show that in that two week period his pcv went from 37 to 34 and that his white cell count is up. My regular vet is on vacation and I am wondering if I should increase his prednisone back up to 60 or continue at 40 even though his pcv has gone down. I don't want to risk a relapse. Is 34 still a good number? |

| Leslie, We are in the exact same boat right now...I'm curious what the others have to say. We dropped from 37 to 34 after lowering the dose. Good news though is that the side effects are a little more managable now and outwardly he's doing pretty well- a little more energy each day. My vet said not to panic, they do go up or down a little here and there. I guess as long as it's not a downward trend. We'll retest Monday, but you're question couldn't be more applicable for us! | just out of my experience alone, i know my dog sway's count fluxuates from one test to another, even tho med doses havent been lowered or raised... 34 is still a pretty nice number considering the highest we have been in 15 months has been 28% i would say keep her on the 40 and have her PCV done again in 3-5 days...if it drops again to say 30 or below then absolutely kick the pred back up to 60. but chances are its just a flux based on timing, the blood draw or numerous other things that is just my 2 cents |
