Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Sudden back leg lameness

Wylie has been doing great, she is 50# on 20 mg a day of prednizone, last Saturday her pvc was up to 47!

So yesterday morning she was jumping up on my bed which is about 3 feet off the ground. Last night she could not get her back legs on the couch which is only a foot off the ground. I though strange. I got a treat, couldnt get her to jump on our low bed.

I dont think this the lameness they talk about with prednizone, or could it be, its so sudden She has no trouble walking or getting up off the ground as I can see or in any kind of pain.

I saw Patrices post about lameness in tick disease. She had a heartworm on 11/1 with she relapsed and it was clear, I think this includes the tick panel right?

But she did have a tick bite 2 weeks ago before I got her on her tick preventative, but would a tick disease be this sudden. Or maybe this is another tick disease that doesnt show up unless the full tick panel is done and that is what caused her relapse. Am I overthinking this too much?

Or maybe I am just a worry wart and she hurt herself somehow.

Laurie, some dogs are prone to disc problems. Wylie may have caused inflammation somehow to her disc while jumping on your bed. Back leg lameness is a symptom.
Try to keep her from jumping on furniture at all to see if there is an improvement. Best, Jan

I think she just hurt herself. I came home last night to her jumping on the couch and she made it on the bed a few times herself but still needing help twice.

I have a 12 year old lab that has been way too amerous lately (if you know what I mean) and he has 50# over her, she snaps at him when he tries.

Laurie-
Hope that it isn't a cruciate tear. This is comparable to a torn ACL in us humans and it causes lameness in the legs... I know this because my Peke, Bella, who has overcome AIHA is now suffering with lame left hind leg.

Vet says it's a cruciate tear.. which is a result of.. you guessed it, PREDNISONE. This disease is such a no win God awful disease....

Bella is on a 6 week rest regimen and if no improvement $1200 surgery is needed to repair the damage... :(

I can't afford the surgery and if they don't work out a monthly payment deal with me.. I don't know what I'm going to do... I hope they do.. considering the nearly $10 grand we;ve spent there over the last five years...

Have you tried giving her glucosamine? Darcy used to have back problems and sometimes limped, so I started her on Standard Process glucosamine capsules (one every other day) and it helped. I try to stop her from jumping down off of high places, as I believe it's the impact from jumping down, not the jumping up that can cause injuries. I still give her a protective boost when she jumps up, because I know she's in a weakened state.

Well, she is back to her bouncy self, jumping on the bed no problem. I was givng her glucosomine before her splenectomy and took her off because it can cause internal bleeding. Amazing so far she hasnt needed it.
