Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Still read daily after 3 years

Even after losing Tasha 3 years ago this weekend to IMHA, I still check in on the forum every few days. Hopefully there will be some progress in the treatment and possibly a cure in the near future. I wish you all the best and please donate what you can to MAF to find a cure.

Steve,
What a gracious way to remember Tasha. I am always here too, every day, to remember Chance. Let us hope they are together somewhere, playing.

Steve,
same here, it never goes away. I was able to make a $610 donation to Meisha's Hope after a successful raffle at an agility trial! what a great way to remember my boy Kahlu. Karma was there too:) that weekend Ripley got his MAD (Master Agility Dog of Canada) title. the raffle was easy and lots of fun, I can highly recommend it:)
after over a year it is still hard sometimes, but the good memories have mostly taken over.

Best wishes to all,

Hi all,
I am still here too. I visit several times a week. I am always praying for the special dogs that are discussed on this site.
Our days are still difficult without our Ren. Several weeks ago we welcomed into our home a tiny Chihuahua! Her name is Pearl. My first prayer for her was for good health for her and a long life.

Love you all,

Sue, Angel Ren & Pearl

Good to hear from all of you. If you want to help in the fight against AIHA/IMHA (and we are making progress in that fight) you can do so by donating to the Meisha's Hope AIHA/IMHA Fund #338 at Morris Animal
Foundation:

I remember each and everyone of your beloved pets and my heart goes out you and to everyone on this site who has lost a dog to AHIA.

Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Even though it has been almost 5 years since I lost my girl Salome to this awful disease I still come to the board and try to support people in the fight. I remember how much it helped to know that there were other people who really understood what you were going through. I have been fortunate to meet some of these people in person even though we live thousands of miles away. I still donate to Meisha's Hope and will continue to do so until research finds better answers. Congrats Susie on welcoming a new puppy into your life. Ren would be so happy to know her doggie parents have someone to lavish all that love on. I miss the doggie car Steve and still thank you for all that you did to raise awareness and money for Meisha's hope. Brigitte, I am glad the good memories are overcoming the bad ones. It is wonderful that you are helping to raise funds for MH in the memory of your boy. Hopefully someday this board will not be needed.

One thing that I do to continue to raise awareness and money is to have plenty of information and donation information available to customers who come in to our shop for service. If they don't grab it on their own I suggest they take it. I think that MAF will send you all that you need.

Like all have mentioned, I also stop in from time to time.
Such a difficult thing that has intertwined all of our lives...
I too want to wish everyone the best, and just know that I think of dogs/people from this board often...

I,too, visit this site every few days. I remember many of the beloved dogs who have passed on to wait at the rainbow bridge. Because of AIHA I have come to appreciate every day with my canine friends. It was exactly 2 years ago today that Tootsie was diagnosed with Evans Syndrome. She is one of the fortunate ones who is doing great. She is still slowly being weaned off of her meds and her vet says she will not be taking them for the rest of her life. Hopefully the Morris Animal Foundation will find a cure for this terrible disease in the near future. Best wished to all!

I still visit this site at least a few times a week...I don't always post but I send up a prayer for all those battling this disease.

I found this site in March 07 when Wolfie was diagnosed, then to my dismay and utter shock was back here 18 months later when Aiyana was diagnosed.

I give to MAF Meishas Hope fund what I can when I can. I am truly hoping one day soon there will be a definite cure.

I was going to start my own thread but I think this one is appropriate. It has been a year and a half since we lost Macy. I still think of her everyday. Most of the time with happy thoughts now but the tragedy will always haunt me. I have had the good fortune of meeting with and working with Dr. Dodds and her husband. Meeting them has really been the silver lining in all of this. They have been gracious enough to value my input on a few things and I can tell you that there could not be two more caring people in the world. Just amazing.

Ok...now selfishly. We (my family) are FINALLY ready to get another pup. I just love the puppy stage (6 weeks or so). Does anyone have any recommendations for adopting puppies? I know this isn't IMHA related but I would appreciate any input if you have any.

Thank you and I'm sorry for all of the people still fighting and for those who have lost their pups. It seems like very special dogs/owners are affected by this awful disease.

R.I.P. Macy- love you and miss you.

Hi All,

I also stop in to see how everyone is doing.. and hope more and more dogs are beating this terrible disease thanks to so much info on this forum. It definately helped us get through the tough times.

Darren,
I would highly recommend Best Friends Los Angeles. You would be saving a dog from a shelter and they are so
wonderful to work with. They even drove our adoptee from the San Fernando valley out to the San Bernardino mountains for us.

Darren,
of course I remember you fighting for Macy! I am so happy you have decided to get an other pup! It will lift your spirits for sure. I only waited one week to get back to Kahlu's breeder who gave me my pup Enzo 2 months after I had to let go of Kahlu. I had no say in which of the pups I would get, but she clearly picked the right one! Enzo makes us laugh out loud every day. I have had 3 rescue dogs before, they were from the SPCA in BC. All 3 were great dogs. The only advice I can give you on picking a rescue is, get a dog that fits YOU. Don't take a dog out of pity, that does not match your personality or lifestyle. If you take the wrong dog, you take away his opportunity to find the right home. (I read that in a book called second hand dog by Carol Lee Benjamin) I would also advise against taking a puppy before 8 weeks. In my opinion they should not be away from the mother and litter mates before that.
No matter what you do, this pup will be so lucky to live with you!
Best wishes and please keep us posted!

Steve, so nice to hear from you. I was thinking of you recently and your wonderful effort to honor Tasha and support Meisha's Hope with your race car.

I still stop in several times a month. I always know this forum as a place where people understand what it's like to have IMHA enter your life and wreak havoc. We lost our Wiley to IMHA six years ago on 19 May, and it still seems unreal sometimes.
We still miss her so and we miss our wonderful life together, but we're grateful for the time we had. She was an exceptional girl, and we were so blessed. We are committed to supporting the Meisha's Hope Fund in Wiley's memory -- each month, that check is a required item in the outgoing mail.

My husband and I unexpectedly adopted a red/white beagle mix from a local rescue organization in January, so we now have a sweet dog in our lives again. She is much different from Wiley, but we think Wiley sent her our way. It gives us joy and additional peace to know that we helped this sweet little dog in need.

My best to everyone. Thank you all for always being here.

I was so excited to read that you and your husband adopted a new furbaby, a BIG congratulations as that is wonderful news as you have some much love to give.

Wiley's photo in the MAF bulletin never goes unnoticed, I see her beautiful face and think about her and all the others that keep their beloved pets memory alive by donating to MAF.

Best Wishes with your new addition.

Steve,
I lost my doxie Hopper a month ago today to this disease and I found this forum so comforting to read and to understand my loss better. I come back and read updates as often as i can. Loosing my beloved little guy opened my eyes up to this illness and I hope that a more research can be done to prevent, properly diagnose and treat it.

Best wishes,

Amy

Cheryl and Ginger -- thank you so much for your congrats and your sweet words about our dear Wiley. Our new girl Zelda is a little sweetheart, and she has helped us heal. We still feel our Wiley with us everyday; she is unforgettable. Take care and my best to you both.

Just like many of you above, I still stop by the website to read through posts on occasion. It still breaks my heart everytime I read of another furry friend lost to this horrible disease. But yet I find myself full of excitement when I hear of one who has fought back and won the battle. We all on here know to well that this is a disease that forever haunts us, even when we are one of the lucky ones who has a survivor. I am so grateful that I am still able to report that my dachshund Tipsi is going on strong as a survivor for 2 1/2 years now. Each and every day that I get to spend with her is a blessing.

For those of you who are still battling, I wish you the best. Never loose HOPE!!

Sincerely,

Layla & Tipsi

Layla,

It was so good to hear from you again. I am so happy to hear that Tipsi continues to do so well. Please give Tipsi a big hug from me and my Canine gal, Maggie.
