I know many of you have used this drug, Dr.Dodds recommended we start using it in combo with the other meds. How long before you noticed a change in RBC levels. Gunner seems to be the same(clinically)for the past week. Eating well, drinking.. but still on the tired side. I know he needs his rest during this nasty disease, just curious how soon I may expect to see some results !! Fingers and toes crossed and praying everyday xxxx

Jacky, adding a thyroid supplement could really make a big difference. I know I was hesitating to add an other drug, but I never regretted it. I was worried that my dog would then have to take it for the rest of his life, but in hindsight, that would be the least of the problems. AIHA is a marathon, not a sprint. You have to be patient. Nobody can give you a definitive time line as to when Gunner's PCV should or will go up. Every dog is different. Just stay positive and do all you can to help Gunner and give him a chance. Then it is up to him to get better! Having Dr. Dodds on board increased his survival chance big time! Celebrate the little successes, having a stable PCV of lets say 20 is better than a PCV of 25 that just came down from 35. Do you know what I am saying? Remember that Gunner has a lot of healing to do. That is why he is tired. He is still considered anemic, his blood is not transporting the oxygen properly. He needs lots of rest, good food and TLC. Don't be tempted though to treat him like a sick dog with baby talk and feeling sorry for him. He does not know that he is seriously ill and it is better to just keep a schedule and keep your mood up. He should feel that there is nothing to worry about, no stress. Keep us posted please and best wishes, Brigitte & the poodle boys

Thank you Brigitte for your kind words :) Gunner is the love of my life and I'm willing to do as much as I possibly can for him ! I am so glad I have Dr. Dodds to refer to , but this site has made a world of difference in our lives. He seems to be happy especially when it come to food. His favorite thing in the world is pizza and he just has some as his friday night treat :) I constantly check his gums, they didn't look quite as pink today to me. But my husband looked and said they look the same. I'm just being overly concerned I suppose. Funny thing is one side look a bit more pink then the other. Still not that bubble gum pink yet, but I know it takes time. As always if you have any tips please plass them along, I love to hear what everyone else does as far as food, meds, vitamins etc . I hope you're having a good start to the weekend!!!

Jacki, I know it is hard to resist those big brown eyes, but just remember you are not doing Gunner a favor by feeding him fatty foods. He could develop pancriatitis, a complication you really don't want him to get. I usually posted a link to Dr. Dodds liver cleansing diet, but for some reason it does not work any more. Try to google "Dr. Dodds liver cleansing diet",hopefully that will get you there. It is pretty easy. Steamed white fish, squash, green beans and potatoes. You can get creative with turkey and chicken, veggies, poached eggs, maybe later very lean beef. No grains, no soy, corn or rice. I also added digestive enzymes and fish oil. I forget if I have mentioned petinic to you, I would imagine Dr. Dodds did. I remember checking my dogs gums 5x a day (at least). Remember, that they are changing depending on his activity. So if they are a little bit paler at one time, don't freak out right away:) You could also check by putting pressure on the gums with your finger, let go and see how fast the pink comes back. The faster it does, the better. I was always saying, by the end of this ordeal my dog would be able to show me his gums on cue:) Take care and best wishes, Brigitte & the poodle boys
