Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Sofie update

Just an update on Sofie, my German Shepherd who was diagnosed on Christmas Eve day at 5 1/2 months old. She has been totally medication free since May, is 14 months old now and you would never know she was ever close to dying at such a young age. We just got back from dog shows this weekend, and Sofie showed well and placed in her classes. What a special girl. Please everyone, remember that our dogs can overcome this and can lead normal lives. All the bad side effects that the medications cause do go away, the only way you can tell Sofie was ever sick is a small dime size spot of hair missing on her back hock, all weight gains, hair loss, muscle loss all became normal once the meds were out of her system.
Keep up the hope.

Joanne, I'm glad to hear Sofie is doing so well.It is always good to see a sucess story.
I wish my Cali had been so lucky. 10 weeks after she passed I adopted Laci. Right away I found out she had a UTI & I am so paranoid after all we went through with Cali. Laci has been on medication for 10 days & it isn't helping with the frequent urination. I told her Vet is is worse then Cali was when she was on 80mgs of Prednizone. I still miss Cali terribly, I guess that's why I still check the website.
Congratulations on Sofie once again,
Dee

Wonderful news about your Sofie! It's always reassuring to hear success stories like yours. I wish everyone on this forum could have the same good results.
