Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Sammy's Jack
| Hi all, I have been watching this site closely over the last (almost) month. My border collie jack was diagnosed with AIHA 15/05/08. It has been a roller coaster as you all said. Today I took him for probably his final blood tests with our vets, if nothing improves then all hop is lost..............except they can refer me to a speciallist. Does anyoone have any experience of wether this is worth doing ? My Jack is only 3!!!! |

| Jack has now been on 40mg of preds twice a day so 80mg a day. I see some of you are on about 4!!!!!!!!!!!. Please help, were you on that much before ? |

| Sammy, I am sorry that you and Jack are going through this roller coaster ride. The amount of prednisone given at the onset of the disease is very high and depends upon the size of the dog. How much does Jack weigh? Leslie |

| I am sorry your dog Jack was diagnosis with AIHA. Pleae do all you can for Jack and I would recemmond that you get him to a specialist as soon as you can. Cheryl & Ginger |

| Do whatever you can for Jack. Treatment isn't cheap as we all know, but there are success stories. |

| Sammy, Please do get a referral to a specialist. Such a referral has saved many dogs lives. When you have time please read the Success Stories at the Meisha's Hope AIHA/IMHA Web site http://www.cloudnet.com/~jdickson/successstories.htm These stories will show you what has worked for other dogs in terms of treatment options and give you a lot of HOPE. AIHA/IMHA is indeed a tough disease but dogs who have been diagnosed with it CAN and DO recover and go on to live happy healthy lives. Please know that you and your most beloved Jack are in my thoughts and prayers during these most difficult days. PS The November Success Story which will go online at the end of October is about a Border Collie from the UK. |
