I recently purchased SAMe for Ginger and I was wondering if anyone knew what the dosage should be for a 75lb dog? The bottle states SAMe tosylate disulfate 200 mg providing SAMe 100 mg. As always thanks for your help, Cheryl & Ginger

Cheryl, Interesting that you said bottle as Alex is approx 70 lbs and on Denosyl(called S-Adenosylmethionine )and the prescription label calls it Sam-e. He's on one 90 mg tablet and one 425 mg tablet once daily in the morning. I'll bet Patrice will be able to tell us what the difference is. Mine are stabilized tablets if that means anything. Chris

Yes, I used over the counter Sam-e for Chance. Although, when his liver enzymes were *really high* I stuck with Denamarin which is manufactured by the same company that makes Denosyl (Nutramax). It contains silymarin or silybin (milk thistle essence) and Sam-e. Chance is nearly 100 lbs so I used the normal adult dosage of Sam-e for him. I compared the otc package dose with the Denamarin dose and kept it the same. When you have a much smaller dog, it is harder to get an otc dose of Sam-e that is correct. In that case, Denosyl or Denamarin are a better choice. You can use either or both Sam-e and silymarin (milk thistle). Purity does seem to matter with the Sam-e but I split the difference and went with something that had a medium cost and a fairly well known company. (Vitacost NSI) Use these guides to figure out your dosages for Same-e and milk thistle (silybin.) I suggest you print this page and circle your dog's weight, dosages and number of pills. Do the math to make sure it is correct: Patrice Denamarin for Small Dogs up to 12 lbs: Active Ingredients (per tablet) Amount S-Adenosylmethionine 90 mg Silybin A+B 9 mg Denamarin for Medium Dogs 13 to 34 lbs: Active Ingredients (per tablet) Amount S-Adenosylmethionine 225 mg Silybin A+B 24 mg Denamarin for Large Dogs 35 lbs and over: Active Ingredients (per tablet) Amount S-Adenosylmethionine 425 mg Silybin A+B 35 mg Dogs: Under 12 lbs Give 1 tablet of the small size tablet daily 13-34 lbs Give 1 tablet of the medium size tablet daily 35-65 lbs Give 1 tablet of the large size tablet daily 66-120 lbs Give 2 tablets of the large size tablet daily 120 lbs and over Give 3 tablets of the large size tablet daily
