Havent been on here in a while. Rosie had a relapse after being on 1/2pred only. Number dropped to 28, so we are back to a higher dose, however she her PCV is now 40. so we are on the downward slope again with the pred. She is soooo fat, being a Doxie this is not good, but she is such a trooper. Pam and Rosie

Pam, I am sorry to hear this. But I am glad you were able to get her back up to a good PCV very quickly. Dr. Dodds advised me at one point that some dogs are never able to come off low dose prednisone due to the risk of relapse. Shoot Dr. Dodds an email and see what she thinks of this. She may ask you when you last checked the thyroid. I had my Cassie checked a year ago. She had been gaining weight and just seemed "old" to me. Sure enough, the results showed hypothyroidism. She has been on her dosage since then and has lost 5 lbs and is now able to keep up with Willie, our teenage Giant. She looks so much better! my best patrice

Sorry, Rosie relapsed, Pam but thank goodness you caught it quickly and she is doing so well. Unfornutaely, Tori's platelets went dangerously low and she bruised so easily, she could have bled-out, but like you I watch her like a hawk and took her in for a CBC check early. I emailed Dr Dodds (thanks to the encouragement of Patrice) and got her on the thyroid meds and protocol for Evans Syndrome, as her PCVs started to decline, too. Within a few short weeks and tons of meds. she began to stablize. Her PCV is now 40 and platelets are within normal range. Whew! We are now decreasing the Pred for the second time. Going very slowly this time around and holding at 4 weeks, then decreasing again. Like you found, the lower dose just couldn't keep them in remission. Praying for Rosie and the rest of our furbabies! God Bless You! Blessings, Cindi & Tori (Evans Syndrome, but heading for remission) PS~The weight will come off... with Pred reduction. :)

(((Pam))) Give Rosie some big hugs for me! Good to hear she rebounded so quickly from the relapse. Sounds like you caught it early so that's a bonus! I also second the thyroid testing. If you decide you want to reduce and get rid of the pred completely I'd suggest seeking out a good homotoxicologist to help *right* the body before you get too low with the pred. I did this successfully with Tessy through my own research (or perhaps she wouldn't have relapsed anyway). It's one thing to suppress the immune system to treat this stupid disease but it's equally important to support it once the drugs and disease is gone! Again....give some scritches and hugs to Rosie for me. Johnny, Tessy, Sadie
