another two weeks pcv stayed at 45. I hope this is normal to do. She is now on 2.5mg of pred am/pm then down to 25mg of atopica. However the Dr. said 4wks till next check. I really was hoping to get off the pred this next two weeks. Its so hard to see Rosie doing fine and not just want to take her off these meds to see how she does.not to mention im running out of funding. Rosie overall is doing great. Still on Bioprep Pam and Rose Bud

Pam, Don't get impatient now. Most relapses are due to taking the dog off the prednisone too quickly. If Rosie is doing fine and the side effects from the prednisone are tolerable, you can't really loose by waiting a bit longer. The rule of thumb is to reduce not more than 25-33% every 3-4 weeks, only one medication at the time. At this point you don't really need a full CBC, ask the Vet if they can just do an PCV at the clinic. That should be fairly inexpensive and should help with the cost. We have full CBC'c only every 6 weeks now. the adrenal glands need a slow weaning from the prednisone to fully kick in and work properly. If you take Rosie off too fast she might relapse. Best wishes, Brigitte & Kahlu

Still excellent news. Good things happen to those who wait. Be patient you'll be of all of it soon. Take care.

Pam Great news that Rosie is stable and it's hard not to be impatient where drug reduction is concerned, but I'm sure 4 weeks will pass swiftly before the next pcv check. As we're also struggling financially with vet bills we only ever check Shaunna's pcv as opposed to doing a battery of tests each time - obviously if they were required then we'd do them. I was also impatient to reduce Shaunna's drugs, but as they're now being reduced every 10 days, I now have the opposite worry of whether she'll relapse because they're being reduced too fast, but our vet seems confident that she won't. Brigitte's right, it's a balancing act. Just keep an en eye open for infections. Best, Claire
