| Hi everyone Just a quick question. Can (antepsin) sucralfate be used safely with ronaxan? Thanks, Claire |

| Claire, Ronaxan is the UK trade name for a tetracycline drug that is called doxycycline. This is probably being prescribed for the possibility of tick disease. Doxy is well known to cause irritation in the esophagus and gastrointestinal system and inappetence in dogs because of this irritation. Sucralfate is prescribed to protect the lining of the esophagus and gastrointestinal system, including the stomach, and heal duodenal ulcers. For approximately 2 hours before and after giving this drug, it's best not to give food or meds as sucralfate will most likely interfere with the absorption of them. It would be best given at bedtime during an overnight fast when it has a long time to work. So yes, by all means give both drugs, but be cautious to not give them at the same time. It is very important to protect the lining from the doxy. my best patrice |
