| Jackie smith, minneapolis, Minnesota, jackiesmithmn@aol.com Sorry to bud in here. I have never done a forum before and found this thru google. I hope if any of you can give me advise which i need URGENTLY that you please email my private email at JackieMn@Me.com Here is what is going on. A friends dog was brought to ER today in Eden prairie, Goldie is her name an 11 month old yellow lab. I first met Goldie about 3 weeks ago or maybe 4. She was so full of energy she would knock you over. She had an abnormal goal to find food anything to eat. I left their house and today got a call. Goldie is in ER... I run over there as my friend who actually is a client of mine and he knows i love dogs and love her he just couldn't go to the hospital he was not emotionally strong enough. So i went over about 5pm today. They had given Goldie one 4 hour drip of blood. I called my friend and here is what i know about Goldie's history. They live out in the country and sadly did not vet her. So she has had no shots and no meds for ticks or the like. She has an out door kennel that they made that was super duper deluxe. She sleeps with him at night. They own a landscaping company and i found out that Goldie eats stuff. From his assessment of going around his house today and looking closely at her kennel he is pretty sure she in ingested the following. The handle of a plastic brush, the hard plastic edging used in landscaping, about a 5x6 inch piece of roofing material the actual tile she chewed a piece off the roof of her kennel and all of these items when ever she was caught chewing the remains were never found. He also said she chews socks. And figured she swallowed parts of socks. He said he had noticed her peeing blood for about 3 weeks and noticed her loosing weight and energy the past 3 weeks. When i saw her today she lost a lot of weight and she was to me dark under her eyes. When they brought her in today she was bleeding thru her gums and could no longer get up and walk. By the time i had gotten there she was better. I knew nothing about this subject until the past hour i have been reading. But what they told me at the er was something was eating up her red blood cells faster than she could make them. So they did bring her into a room with me. She imed was walking around like she was looking for something. I totally think she was looking for food. I just know that look on dogs as my own dog has digestive issues and it's like they are hunting for any morsell of anything food related. So the gal brought in water and some canned food and she hand fed goldie the food which goldie gladly ate. The gal didn't want to feed her too much and then she would throw up. Goldie even though she had been on IV drank a lot of water . A whole bowl actually. Then she calmed down and layed on a blanket by me on the floor. She definitely was lethargic i really don't think she remembered me but maybe she did lick me a couple times. But while she was laying on the blanket she peed and she didn't know that she did. The gal was there and she cleaned it up and it had blood in it. After reading one part of something i read, it said that red blood cells are like little broom sticks that go thru our bodies to clean up scratches and cuts and open wounds. I am sitting here as i was earlier today wondering if something she ingested cut her somewhere inside her body likely the intestines? It has not to my knowledge been determined of any bloody stools. The vet explained that if there was something stuck her symptoms would be much different. But i am still wondering since i read that one paragraph. Then i read in this forum that a study has already been going on for 2 years at the U of M which is in my city. I am wondering if I should suggest to my friend to have Goldie moved to the U of M right away since they have been doing the study on the issue of red blood cells being sucked up faster than they can produce??? I am also sad after reading everything that the future looks bleak for goldie. This of course saddens me horribly. But the specialist is going to be taking over at 8am i guess. I told the girls everything i wrote here but it didn't seem to phase them at all. OH and the most important info I should provide here is the blood test that they keep taking to see where her platlets are? I think that is what the test is for. Well I forgot what they consider a normal range but when Goldie came in today she was at 6 and after the blood fusion which was not a total she was at 11 so a slight improvement. The way the vet explained this to me is that if it were us we would be nearly dead. she didnt' want to say to give up on Goldie yet she wanted to keep going to see if they thru test and etc. can figure out what the cause is. Of course it could be a tick as Goldie was out side in her kennel a ton this summer. IF ANYONE RESPONDS TO THIS COMMENT OF MINE ON HER WOULD YOU PLEASE PLEASE EMAIL ME YOUR COMMENT TO JackieMn@Me.com I SURE WOULD BE SO THANKFUL AS I WILL CHECK MY EMAILS AT THE ER BUT NOT BE ON MY COMPUTER. I PRAY SOMEONE WILL TELL ME IF I SHOULD TRY TO GET HER TO THE U OF M OR NOT. RIGHT NOW SHE IS AT THE EDEN PRAIRIE EMERGENCY HOSPITAL... THANK YOU ALL FOR ALLOWING ME TO BUD IN HERE.
