Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Red is HOME!!

It is a happy day for us here - Red is HOME! The rescue delivered him to us just a couple hours ago. They did a check of our home and fence and were very pleased. He was introduced to our cats and did great. The cats, surprisingly, are nonplussed at having a new dog in the house. Go figure...

We are SO, SO happy with him and to have a dog in our home again. He's just a little sweetheart and so far seems happy and to be settling in fine. He has been on a walk, played with his new toys, and is now plumb worn out and sleeping.

I'll post pictures later!

A day early! You must be so thrilled to have him home, finally. I am so happy for you guys, and for that lucky dog, Red. Enjoy him, as I'm sure you will.

Have a great long weekend.

OK, freaky thing guys. I was just going through Red's paperwork that came with him from the rescue. His date of birth is listed as 4/13/08. Riley died on 4/13/10. I think that's a powerful sign from the universe that we picked the right dog for us!

Jennifer,

I just got chills reading your last post on the date 4/13. Like the blue collar comedy guy (I think his name is Bill Engvall) would say "theres your sign". Wow!

Glad to hear Red is home and adjusting nicely! What a nice way to start the weekend.

Please give him some hugs and smootches from his "virtual" friends.

Sorry about the link...I'm not quite sure what the problem is.

Try this, when you click it, and you get the white redirect screen that says "You are being directed to a website outside the BBS" click the hotlink there. That seems to work.

It still says the page can't be found! :/

Photobucket is acting weird, I'm not sure what the problem is.

Give him some scratches and rubs for me.

Jennifer,

Loves the pics. You all (even Red) seem so completely happy in the pictures. It actually brought tears to my eyes. Here's to many years of happiness with your boy. I think Riley definitely lead you to Red. The dates are crazy! Have a great weekend getting to know Red.

Congratulations, all the preparation seems to have taken ages. Loved the photos and hope Red is settling in his new home. So pleased that you took the plunge as it must be hard but Riley would approve I'm sure. Good luck and the best of health for Red.

Dear Jennifer,

Congratulations on the new addition to the family!
He is absolutely gorgeous!

I am glad your cats are not bothered by Red - I know I had some difficulties with one of my cats when we first got our dogs....

May you enjoy many happy and healthy years with Red,

Sam & Millie.

Thanks all - we've had a really fun weekend with Red! He's settling in quite well. I can't believe our good luck in being able to adopt him - he is truly a dream dog. Listens well, good house manners, no separation anxiety, and just a loving and goofy dog. I can't believe someone gave this dog up, he's that great.

He's bonded very strongly with me, but loves my husband as well. His only "downside" that we've noticed so far is he's nervous in the car - he drools everywhere and obviously isn't enjoying himself. I hope we can get him over that hurdle and we want to be able to take him lots of places!

It definitely was a long road to get him, but it was worth it!
Jennifer

Awwww.....bless his heart! Perhaps he is nervous in car because he thinks he is going back to the shelter. If that is the case, I would imagine in no time he will know better and start to enjoy car rides. Maybe you can just take him on short distance drives for a while and just get out and play ball at the park or something. My mom's kitty is like that in cars because she associates cars with trips to the vet, which she hates.

Enjoy your boy!

We were thinking the same thing...maybe he thought we were taking him back. :( Poor pup. I just took him to the Pet Supplies Plus about 1 1/2 miles away, so they could give him treats and spoil him. :) Riley always loved car rides so it didn't occur to me that he might not!

Apparently he had a bad ride from the rescue to our house - they said he threw up 3 times. But they had him riding in a crate in the back of a van, and I figured he might do better if he could look out the windows.

At first I plan to try to get him more comfortable in the car, just parked in the driveway. Then short rides to fun places -good idea.
