Does anyone give their dogs bully sticks. I wonder if these are good for them and might be something that triggers AIHA. I know that this sounds strange but you never know. I give my dog a lot of these and am just wondering if they are not good for him and his current condition. Mark

That's a good question Mark. We've steered clear of those types of treats...In fact, I bought some rawhide type of things as a special treat at Christmas, then decided not to give them. Most of them are made in China, and who knows, maybe all that melamine in food, etc, plays a role here. Joanne posted recently about some jerky type treats that were suspect. IMHA dogs are just at more risk. I say play it safe. Tiggs loves raw veggies now as treats, now that he's on Pred, just about anything can be a treat. I also like giving him some boiled chicken- he loves it and it's good for him. Just nothing too fatty, most of our dogs are at risk for pancreatitis, and you want to avoid things like bacon, hamburger, etc for this reason. How is everything else going for you? Is your baby responding well to treatment so far? best, melissa and tiggs

Melissa, He is doing better. He is still panting all of the time but besides that he is doing o.k. We are waiting to get the blood results back that will give us a little more specifics of what we are dealing with. Hopefully he will be alright. I just can't wait until he can go outside and start playing again. Happy holidays and thank you for the e mail. Mark

I have used bully sticks...but not on a regular basis. Many of them are made in the USA...in fact, they are the only bully sticks I would buy. I also check any rawhide as to where it comes from...a guy at the pet store recommended some to me and after he left I read the label: made in China. Nope! I use rollios (made from cow cheeks) but they are not easy to find. My Tillie is a massive chewer and she just turned 7 years old on the 27th. Best advice: make sure what you buy is labeled and you know where it comes from. (I have been told Australia is an ok supplier as well.) So many things to figure out! Hope this helps. Mrs. Gates PS.....everytime I have to buy this stuff I struggle with labels/country etc.
