Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Q. about Contacting Dr. Dodds

Hi Everyone -

Like many of you, I've consulted with Dr. Dodds about Murray's care over the past three years and am in touch with them periodically about his thyroid condition.

Does anyone know, if you email a question to the "hemopet" address, does the response come directly from Dr. Dodds or does she have someone handle emails?

Thanks - Bonnie

Bonnie,
Lovely question. I can assure you that Jean Dodds sits long after her official day is done attempting to read and answer as many of the frantic pet owner's email that she can. She cares deeply about dogs and understands that this is a battle that sometimes must be won one dog at a time. Hemopet is a labor of love for her and her husband.

She does have a staff of folks who go through the email and will respond to those emails when Jean is out of town or has run out of time. But they will let you know that they will bring the email to her attention when they can.

I always try to make sure my email is short and precise. I highlight the area that I would like her to focus on. I title the subject clearly as Chance Lockhart:topic, so she has some way to sort these out.

If you are looking for a consultation, you can fill out the form on her website and it has a $30 charge for this. For example, reviewing blood work from another lab etc.

After suggestions from this forum I emailed Dr Dodds, and I have to say my email was quite long, and she kindly went through the email and put her comments into the email - also sending her protocols attached.

Seems like an amazing lady to me. Also, as Patrice said, when she is away, her staff respond to let you know whats going on.

She is indeed one special woman. I was shocked the first time I emailed her she actually called me that night on the phone. Dr. Dodds is truly a Saint!

Thank you for your replies.

It's been my experience as well that Dr. Dodds replied directly - I had received a somewhat unusual response and wondered if it may have been answered by another person.

I'm sure she was just in a hurry with everything else she has going on - she certainly has been a lifesaver for many of us and so giving of her time. I would definitely encourage anyone who is struggling with AIHA/IMHA to reach out to her if you feel a second opinion is warranted.

You got that right! She did the exact same the first time I contacted her. I emailed her and she called me probably 3-4 hrs after that.

I've been emailed back a few times by her staff stating she was out and she'ld get back to me when she could.

I'ld also recommend people use her services when dealing with AIHA. It's well worth the money to have her professional opinion and analysis.

Great Great woman!
Johnny
