Hi all, Just curious, because I thought I read somewhere that after going to every other day on the prednisone, then it is every 3rd day??, or do we just stop after the every other day. We are doing 4 weeks on each reduction and are currently on the every other day. Has anyone else done this, every third day and then stop?? Thanks, Linda

Linda, What dosage are you giving every other day?

After we went to every other day, we have stayed that way but just continuing with a 20% reduction every 2 weeks. So now we are every other day 0.34 mls. Jess and Keiko

Hi Joanne, Sorry, guess I should have said that. We are at 2.5mg prednisone every other day. Still on Imuran every day at 2mg or whatever it is, a 1/4 tablet of the 50. She goes in on Monday for her blood draw, and if good, I will still keep her at same dosage for one more week, I am only doing the reductions every 4 weeks. Just trying to gear myself up for good news tomorrow. Thanks, Linda

Linda, Good for your vet for reducing the pred to 2.5mg eod. So many vets tend to discontinue the pred at 5 mg eod and in my nonvet opinion that is a big mistake. I personally think that the pred should be lowered even more before it is completely dicontinued. In the cases that I have seen the pred reduced very very slowly at the end, I have seen very few relapses. However in cases where the pred has been discontinued at 5 mg eod, I have seen many relaspes. If I ever were to have dog with AIHA/IMHA again, I would reduce the pred very slowly at the end. From 2.5 mg eod I would go to 2.5 mg every third day then every 5th day, then every 7th day with 4 weeks between each reduction. I would consider a total discontinance of the pred at every 7th or 9th day if blood testing said that the PCV had remained stable. You might want to consider visiting with your vet in regard to such a very slow, slow pred redcution and discontinuance.

Hi Joanne, Thanks for confirming for me, and I totally agree with a very slow reduction. In fact Holly went in for her blood work this morning, so we will know the results tomorrow. We have pretty much left the reduction up to Holly's internist in Atlanta, but I talked with our vet up here today. Again, hoping all is good tomorrow with her blood work, we will continue 2.5mg EOD for one more week making it 4 weeks, then will reduce to every third day for 4 weeks and continue like you said, basically what our vet said this morning. Thanks though for re-assuring me on this. Linda
