Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Poppy

My name is Maureen and my almost 6 year old English Cocker was diagnosed with AIHA last Monday. I cannot believe that I am even writing this but this afternoon our precious girl lost her fight. I was told about this page by a friend...despite having furry ones all my life, I have never come across this dreadfully cruel disease. My heart is breaking for our Poppy.

Maureen,

I am so very saddened to hear of the death of your dear Poppy. Please accept my deepest sympathies on your loss.

When you feel up to it, I hope you will visit the Loss & Grief page at the Meisha's Hope AIHA/IMHA Web site:

This page was written with input from those who have lost their dogs to AIHA/IMHA and contains many resources that will be helpful to you during these most difficult days.

Once again, my sympathies to you on your loss. Please be assured you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Maureen -- I was sorry to learn that you lost your dear Poppy to IMHA. Like you, most of us had never heard of this disease until it hit our dogs. And like you, many of us have lost our beloved dogs. Please take care. And please remember that you did all that you could do for Poppy and she died knowing that you loved her. I hope your memories of your wonderful life together will comfort you. It takes time.

Maureen,

We are so sorry to hear of the loss of Poppy. Most of us I think on here had never heard of this disease until it struck our babies. It is a wonderful board and we all learn from each other.

And yes, this disease is a cruel disease. Please take care and just take one day at a time.

Maureen,
I am so sorry for your loss. I too have had animals for 58 years and had never heard of this awful disease until my dog was diagnosed. We lost her after a month of treatment so I do understand your pain. The thing you can do now is to try to get the word out about this terrible disease and to educate people about the risks of pet products and over vaccinating our beloved furkids. I hope in the coming days you can remember your sweet Poppy with smiles instead of tears. The pain never really goes away but it does lessen.
