Brandi weighs 36 lbs. She is on 30mg of pred split up in 2 doses. Also 25mg of Azathioprine once a day and 100mg Atopica twice a day. I'm wondering if the 30mg of pred needs to be increased to 40? My last update from OSU is that she went up and back down after the transfusion. I think it went back down to 17 from 23. I was medicated last night and when Dr Dugas called this morning I was not prepared. I do know that she isn't transfusing again right away and that she's waiting for the blood to arrive. I need to see where she's getting this blood because it was an agreement on the way to go after Dr Dugas talked to Dr Dodds. Not sure if it's Hemopet or not. Will know more today.

Correction Pred 40mg twice daily and all others the same as I first posted. Dr Dugas just called and said getting ready to transfuse Brandi again as her pcv dropped to 13. She said her platelets have went UP to 31,000. We talked a little about Brandi and her will to fight. Dr Dugas said Brandi IS a fighter and she's strong. She said the platelet increase is showing a ray of hope. She said the blood she talked about with Dr Dodds is universal and will be there tomorrow although it didn't come from Hemopet. Probably just because it came from somewhere closer and would get her faster? She and Dr Dodds agreed Brandi does not need the anabolic steroid shot or the throxine since Brandi is highly regenerative. I guess being regenerative is a good thing? Brandi's GI appears to be better and they think that's one of the reasons her platelets have risen. She's also still on a couple of antibiotics that I'm not sure of the spelling - unicin and Floxicin. Since she's going to start the transfusion I'm going to wait about 3 hours before I leave to go see her. Takes about an hour to get there so I'm hoping it will be done by then so I can hold her, love on her, kiss and hug her. I keep going back reading about Casper, the little Eskimo dog and wish I could get in touch with his owner. His case and Brandi's just seem so similar and Casper offers hope for Brandi. I love these OSU people. They have been so willing to listen to me, answer my question, humor me etc. For this I feel so blessed.

teresa..the meds seem fine. If it is 40mg given twice a day they will probably start to reduce it as she shows signs of progress. 40 mg split into two 20 mg doses is what they will probablt settle on later. Sounds like you are in good hands. Good luck, this is a tough disease to fight....Ron

I know Casper's owner still posts on this board you may be able to reach her through this link. http://www.cafepress.com/casperncaboodle/4174156 Thinking of you and Brandi. penny

Im my non-professional opinion, Brandi's meds sounds about the right dosage. Try not to be discouraged about her minor set backs in the blood numbers. Sometimes they will drop before healing starts...been there, done that. Praying for her complete recovery!

Being regenerative is good, she is making new blood, so that's positive. I think her meds sound about right, but who am I? I just know Tiggs Pred dose was nearly twice is weight as well at diagnosis. His aza has always been at 30mg/day without any changes to that yet, and we have never been on Atopica. The hardest part is that the side effects of Pred at those dosages can be very difficult, though life-saving, but you can only take it minute by minute, day by day at this point. I'm so glad to hear you are getting amazing care and compassion at OSU, I'm very optimistic that things will turn around for you and Brandi! Hang in there, melissa and tiggs

Thanks all for your feedback! I went to Casper N Caboodle and sent an email and hopefully Casper's Mom will contact me. I'm going to post an update separately.

Yes, 40mg twice daily is what Willow started at and she was almost 10lbs heavier than Brandi.
