Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Please help

Is there anyone out there who has had any success with homeopathic meds in addition to allopathic meds for treatment of IMHA???

My eight year old Shih Tzu had been in a 5 year remission from her original diagnosis of IMHA in November 2002 until last week.... she became lethargic, and colorless again and when we brought her to the vet her PCV was 8. A transfusion was done immediately bring her RBC to 20, but throughout a week of IV therapy to flush the bilirubin her PCV dropped again to 14. So another transfusion last night and she is back up to 30, but still looking awful.... lost a lot of weight as she has eaten only a few bites in nearly two weeks. Any suggestions out there are certainly welcome.

Thank you

When Ern was at his worst I gave him bach's rescue remedy 2 or 3 times a day and it seemed to help perk him up a bit. He's doing much better now and I still give him it once a day. I don't know for certain whether it helped, but I've always used it for my animals, including sickly puppies and I have faith in it doing at least SOME good.

Lisa, hello. What a devastating disappointment after such a successful remission. Was there any precipitating factor that you can think of or did this recurrence happen without provocation?
I have been using homeopathic products for Choe (14 month AIHA patient) from the very beginning. ( liquid mixes include spleen blood activator, revitialization, liver drain, etc. Also some standards such as pet tinnic and canine immune support system. I would take your pet in for a consult to a homeopath. Please keep us posted. Best, Jan

Dear Sue & Jan,

Thank you both so much for your recommendations. Sue -- I have rescue in the house, but in my altered state of disbelief didn't even think to get it out till you mentioned it -- thank you
Jan -- unfortunately, I do not have a homeopath anywhere near me, and I feel she is in dire straits right now, so running out of time. I do however have a kit of pellets, (not liquids) and was hoping for some specific names of remedies that I might already have on hand. I will research some liver cleanse suggestions however as she is loaded with bilirubin, and quite jaundiced. We return to the vet on Saturday, (if she makes it that long) for a repeat PCV and will have to decide then what to do depending on the numbers.

and no, there was nothing at all that we can think of to provoke this relapse, but I can say that this time is thousands of times worse than the first. I know I can't do this (watching her suffer) too much longer.

apple cider vinager is a recommended 'tonic' for people and pets. Purchase the raw/unfiltered brand -
teaspoon every day. Health food store should also have acidopholis....I buy the baby-dophilus. sprinke over food for better digestion. The homeopathic liquid remedies I order (liver drain, spleen blood activator, revitlization) are from a vet but the manufacturer is called 'futureplex' I don't know if they will sell them directly to a consumer. Lisa,
There is a Homeopath/Alternative Vet in Terra Ceia, she does make housecalls. I have not used her yet, but I met her at the opening of a Holistic pet store in Bradenton. I have heard good things about her. She does know about IMHA/AIHA and she knows who Dr.Dodds is( Specialist in IMHA/AIHA) many people on this forum myself included have sought advice from Dr.Dodds.
