I cant stress this enough, I have been charting her CBC in a spreadsheet and "I" noticed her MCHC was over, not by a lot, high is 40 she is at 44. I brought it up and he wasnt concerned because if was just over the high, but I said what if it contunies to rise? MCHC is caused be too much iron, she has been taking Pet Tinic an iron supplement and he said to stop and the number should go down. So if I hadnt mentioned this and continued to give her Pet Tinic would her number continue to rise to unsafe levels. arrgh The other is the PLT high normal is 500, she is at 770. High plt is when the blood is clotting too much. "I" again brought this up, he wasnt too concerned and said its one of those things the vet world doesnt understand . So I did a search and said high platelets can cause strokes/heart attacks and aspriin is recommended so know I have to call back and ask at what number do you get concerned should I add aspirin. This is all so frustrating. Laurie

Thanks Laurie, I study Ren's blood work every vet visit. If things are out of the norm, I question it.

Laurie, Great heads up. It is sad that we seem to have to do a lot of the footwork but perhaps we will teach these doctors something yet about this disease and to make them understand the importance of things like blood clots. Duh!

I think we need ot take as much in our hands as possilbe. In my search I found that PLT can be caused by AIMA and no spleen, she also has no spleen. Does he say anything like that. no I have been keeping track of her other bloodwork since April but only the ALT, ALK and kidney functions. I did not realize the importance of the other numbers so I only recently since November started keeping track, this is when she had her relapse. Since they were so busy last night I didnt go back and have them give me the all of the blood readings since April. I showed my vet my spreadsheet and he liked it because he could see at a glance compare her readings and dates without going thru her chart which is thick as a novel now. So since Nov her PLT has been slowly rising, from 520 in Nov 700 December 6 and 770 January 10. I guess in a perfect world, I would want the vet to say, hmmm we are seeing a rise lets watch it and have it re-tested in a month. And I would not be worried until the number gets to "here" I think they should discuss any number that is high. Like when I freaked about about her ALT being almost 1000, he said not to worry thats prednizone induced, it will go down when the pred is reduced. Laurie
