Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - Picked up from the Oct 09 success story

Just reading the latest lovely story on Meisha's hope, I noted in the diary that when the prednisone was being reduced, it was recommended to give it just once a day as that would reduce side effects.

Riley's dose has been reduced and I did wonder whether to give it twice a day as I have been doing, but for convenience have been giving it once a day. It does seem like there is a lot to give Riley, along with protectants, reflux and antibiotics.

Any advice, particularly in regard to the prednisone as I was thinking of dividing the dose between morning and evening?

Silka,

We gave the prednisone 2x per day when Kahlu was on the high doses (75 mg per day). Only when we got to 2.5mg did we give it once a day. It is a hassle to give it 2x per day, but I think that is what you should do with the prednisone. Patrice can probably give you a scientific explanation why it should be that way, i just know that is what we and most people did.

Best wishes,

Thanks Brigitte, I am going to dose it twice a day, have started to do that now.
