Hello all, Just made a discovery this morning of which some of you may already be aware but which I hope others might find helpful. I had been advised by my vet and by Dr. Dodds through my vet that my Barkley might benefit from taking anabolic steroids. Easier said than done, since these are controlled substances and unavailable in the US. I had thought that I was going to have to send or travel to another country to access these medications and had even placed a call to the veterinary medicine department of the FDA to try to find a legal solution to this dilemma. I then talked to a pharmacist at Walgreens who suggested that I might contact a compounding pharmacy in my community to see if they might be able to produce this medication for Barkley. Well, the pharmacy in my area had closed down but the phone number linked me to a pharmacy in Ocala, Florida called Frank's Compounding Pharmacy and they confirmed that they could make the medication for my boy and within an hour they had contacted my vet, they had my information and Barkley's Rx and they were preparing his prescription to be shipped! Thank you to Walgreens and to Frank's for their help! You can find Frank's information on line and the contact person there is Kelly. They will be opening another pharmacy in Portland, OR sometime within the next year. I also just wanted to add a little note to this entry. When Barkley went in today to the vet and his PCV was again 9 (was 11 on Friday) and he had to have his 6th blood transfusion I saw the pain and apology in our vet's eyes that Barkley was still struggling and that he had been unable so far to make this monsterous disease stop attacking my boy. When I got Barkley back home, now with a PCV of 17, I called out vet's office and just asked them to pass a message on to our vet, letting him know how much we appreciate and cherish every roll in the grass, cat-chasing episode, face lick and any shared moments that his unfailing efforts on our behalf have allowed us to have. I just wanted to encourage all of us to let our vets know, if we are lucky enough to have ones whose eyes also carry that pain and commitment and caring, that their efforts are not taken for granted. His consistent work on Barkley's behalf and willingness to reach out to anyone who might be able to help are the stuff that also make this battle feel not quite so impossible. Thanks to all of you tireless vets out there who carry your commitments in your hearts and on your sleeves! We couldn't do it or make it without you! (That includes all of Barkley's veterinary team members!) Barkely and Cheryl

Cheryl, I am so sorry to hear Barkley is still struggling, but glad to hear he is back home with you. I am sure your loving, tender care is healing and soothing to him. Will pray the new meds will give him the boost he needs to climb over the top of this persistent disease. Frank's pharmacy is literally around the corner from my mom's place in Ocala! They do specialize in lots of things so glad you found them. Hugs and hugs and hugs and prayers to you and Barkley sharon

Hello again, I realized after I provided the information about the Compounding Pharmacy that the name of the pharmacy is actually Franck's Compounding Lab (that's the location where they do the veterinary compounding)and their contact # is 1-800-622-4510. I believe Kelly's extension is 251. They also have a toll free fax line so that Rxs can be quickly and cost effectively expedited. Hope that helps some of you other struggling pups and their people. If so it's the least Barkley and I could do for all of the support and information you have provided to us. Waggily Warm Wishes, Barkley and Cheryl
