| Wylie had her tests yesterday, her PCV has been holding steady at for the last 2 months, 47, yeah!!! now the not so good news. Her ALT went from 352 to 553. just before she went off pred in March. her last ALT was 553. I had been giving her over the counter milk thistle and my vet recommended mirin, the vetinerary formula. She had been on that for a month and her ALT went down to 352. I ran out and since its expensive I went back to the over counter she has been that a month. So do you think the vetinerary formula cause it to go down? I really am thinking it could also be some other underlying issue because when she was first diagnosted 4/08 and weaned off pred, her ALT came down fast and low, down to 110. With her relapse her ALT was up to 1000, and has been slowly coming down until this upswing. I am also thinking because of her age Sooo, any thoughts? Laurie |

| What's Wylie on for drugs at the moment? Are you feeding her foods that could be putting extra strain on her liver? Higher fat diets can elevate liver enzymes so you might want to consider switching to a low protien diet for her. Remember though that the liver needs protien to help it regenerate damaged cells so you need to use the highest quality protein available in the best tolerated quantities. Perhaps you should consider Dr. Dodds' liver cleansing diet. .... http://www.canine-epilepsy-guardian-angels.com/liver_diet.htm .... There are other drugs available you could use such as Denosyl or Marin (silymarin). Of coarse you would have to consult her doctor before adding these. I think that considering her ALT was close to 1000 after her relapse....at least 553 is only half that. It takes time for the liver to repair itself. The drop from 1000 to 553 shows that the liver is at least repairing itself. I've seen ALT numbers in the 1000's many times and sometimes even higher. If he is still on drugs then his numbers will most likely remain high. A specialized diet should help though. Are all other chem numbers normal? Stool/urine all good? Hope Wylie overcomes this obstacle and gets well. I'll send a prayer her way tonight. Hugs from Johnny & Tessy |

| Lol Johnnie, you sound like me! I think I gave you all of that info when Tessie was first diagnosed. I am leary of giving her anything, Wylie had a bad reaction last year to the denosyl, didnt find that out until I spent about $1000 on tests over 2 months and found out that what was causing her problems. I had her on the liver cleansing diet for awhile and went off of it and may go back. I just heard back from the vet and he is prescribing doxycyclene for a possible infection. And then said she could have possible gall bladder problems with just the ALT up if no improvement after being on the doxy so we will see what happens. he doesnt like seeing that it went from 553 to 350 back 553 in a space of 2 months. She was on mentrizoidal in March and he is wondering is that made her ALT go down so fast and such a big number, but feels he likes doxy better since she has been on it before with no bad reaction.
