Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (AIHA & IMHA) - PCV Drop

Darcy's PCV has dropped from 13% last week to 12% today. Her clincal signs are still very good, but her gums and inside of ears very pale. Her blood is being sent for a cyclosporine absorption test. The specialist said to just keep a close watch on Darcy and another transfusion would be a last resort. She was so sick (pancreatist) with the third transfusion that I said I'd never put her through that again. The specialist is also concerned about doing one and said she could have a reaction even worse than the one before. She is at the maximum dosage of Neoral/Atopica and on 5mg/day Prednisone. The specialist took her off the Azathiropine and lowered the Prednisone dose from 30mg. to 5mg. because of the pancreatitist. She is afraid to increase the Prednisone again.

I'm loving Darcy, spoiling her, and being thankful for every day I have her with me. I have placed her in God's hands. I want what's best for my sweet baby girl. I weep as I type this, because I'm not ready to let her go. All prayers are greatly appeciated.

Karen,
I have been reading all of the postings on this site for about the last 4 weeks. My prayers are with you and Darcy. The ups and downs and the not knowing is the toughest part. Our Cooper who was diagnosed just 6 weeks ago, is now on his 6th day of decreasing his prednisone from 80mg to 40 mg a day. I wake up each morning wondering if he will be okay, or will this nasty disease rear its ugly head again. Hang in there and know that everyone on here is praying for you.

We are lifting up total healing prayers for Darcy today. Try to be strong. When she recovers, this will become a distant bad memory. I thank God for every day that you have with her.

Karen,

Hoping Darcy stays strong! She's held on and fought so hard, I hope that she can hold on a little longer and let that cylco do it's job. She's so incredible, how her little spirit just looks so good, even when her numbers don't. She's obviously not giving up yet either.

We'll be sending our love out into the universe for the little gal.

Thanks you guys. You are incredible. Just knowing that you are going through this fight with me and even those, like Sharon, who have lost their babies but still continue to care is so uplifting and amazing. I don't know what I'd do without this forum.

Keeping you and Darcy in our prayers. We are hoping she is on the correct dosage of Cyclosporine and it begins to bring up her PCV soon.

Darcy is such a fighter, I wish I could be half as strong as she is!

Please keep us posted on how she is doing.

Karen,
Have you spoken to Dr. Dodds? I am wondering about Darcy's reactions to the transfusions? Did they type match her? Dr. Dodds specialty is blood so you might email her. Glad to hear that Darcy's other vitals are good and will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers.
