After an awful week of waiting and wondering, we finally got results from hemopet last night! With the coming holidays, the shipping took longer than expected. Once Dr. Dodds had the blood, the report was done in 24 hours. And it is all good!!! His numbers are fantastic, (HCT 56!) no spherocytes and just a little bit of polychromasia. After a week of being back checking Kahlu's gums every half hour, i can now relax a bit over the holidays. His urine culture also came back negative. We can now take him off the antibiotics and hope his immune system is strong enough to fight the bugs on his own. With all the vet bills, Christmas will be meager this year. But we got the best present we could wish for, a healthy Kahlu. I will never stop worrying, but for now he is good. Kahlu looks healthy and happy and people that did not know how sick he was would never know. It is 11 months to the day, that he was diagnosed. Without Meisha's Hope and all of you on this board it would have been a long and lonely year. THANK YOU!!! As it is, I feel I have found friends, a group of incredibly caring people that helped me so much along this bumpy road. I also have learned so much in the past months. Beside immunology, hematology and pharmacology, I have learned that there are always people out there that are willing to help, just out of the goodness of their heart. These dogs are trusted to us for such a short time, we have to enjoy every day with them, make time to spend it with them and cease the moment. I will be thinking of you and your pups when I will be happily siting under my Charley Brown tree. Take good care of yourself and your furkids, have a Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year! Brigitte, Kahlu and family

Brigitte, it warms my heart to hear this wonderfull news. I was wondering yesterday about the hemopet results. I'm also thrilled to hear the urine culture came back negative. That was one long battle you and Kahlu was having with the recurring UTI's. BRAVO. Give some BIG EAST COAST hugs to Kahlu for me. Merry Christmas to you, Kahlu and the family. Johnny & Tessy

Brigitte, Kahlu has been our Knight in shining armour for the last several months. Copper was diagnosed just one month after Kahlu and has traveled much the same path throughout the worst of times and now fortunutly during our recovery period. I must admit you both made us nervous this past week with words like possible relapse. I was very happy to read your post today and wish to extend the best of the holiday season and a very happy New Year. I truly understand your feelings that Kahlu' good health is the best Christmas present you could possibly receive. At our house we feel exactly feel the same way concerning Cooper. Ron & Cooper

Brigitte, I was so happy to see the heading in your post when I logged in today! Im so excited for you and Kahlu. A meagre Christmas is ok when compared against a healthy Kahlu. Have a wonderful Christmas and even better New Year. I would like to remind you that YOU too are one of those caring people! If it wasnt for you, I would not have found this forum full of care and concern - not to mention the help I have received. Silka
