Darcy's PCV was 21% today, down from last week's reading of 26%. I don't know what's happening. I haven't discussed the situation with the specialist as I'm waiting for her to call me when she gets the results of today's CBC test. I modified Darcy's medication schedule this morning, because of what Patrice said about Carafate interfering with absorbtion. Also made some changes based on the recommendation Dr. Dodds sent to me last night. She said to separate the adminstration of Soloxine and Cyclosporine by at least 30 minutes (I had been giving them together because our vet said it was okay) and to give the Soloxine at least an hour before any food or other drug (that being the Prednisone). So currently Darcy eats breakfast at 6:00, then gets the Carafate. She gets Soloxine at 8:00 and Cyclosporine at 8:30 (these three doses are repeated in the evening). At 9:30 p.m. she gets 5mg. Prednisone. PetTinic is giving around lunchtime and at 10:30 p.m. A couple of weeks ago the specialist mentioned that if Darcy's PCV didn't improve we might have to put her on the name brand of Cyclosporine, which is Neoral. I asked her about Atopica, but she said it was the same thing. I know some of you have used Atopica and, if I understand correctly, it was made specifically for dogs. I'm trying not to worry, but just can't help it. Darcy acts like she feels good, is always ready to eat and greet everyone, and has no potty problems. Any thoughts? Karen

Karen, I can't provide any advice on Darcy's situation, just wanted you to know that you are in our thoughts today and we're hoping Darcy is doing well. Lately I've been trying to focus more on how Tiggs looks and acts, instead of the numbers since they seem to go up and down all the time- easier said than done, but sounds like Darcy acts as though she is feeling ok. You are an awesome mom, you are really on top of it! Keep us posted, melissa and tiggs

Karen, It sounds like it's a really good sign that she acts like she feels good! I don't have any advice - Alex is on the Atopica. Not sure if it makes a difference or not from the Neoral. Just wanted to say that we are routing for you and Darcy. You're in our thoughts and prayers. Keep us posted. Chris & Alex

Melissa and Chris, Thanks to both of you for your kind words. I guess I'm having a meltdown today. Hopefully, things will start looking up soon. My best to you, to Tiggs, and Alex. Karen

Karen -- I'm going to agree with the others. First, you are a great doggie Mom. You have really worked to become informed, to ask questions, and to do all that you can to help Darcy fight this damned disease. She couldn't ask anything more from you. You are showing her every second how much you love her and want to do the best for her welfare. Second, the numbers are important, but Darcy's behavior and other observables also are important. It's a good sign that she's acting okay and has appetite and no pottie problems. I'm also glad that Dr. Dodds is right there with you as you work with Darcy and your vets. Her expertise and counsel have got to be great comforts to you. We're all keeping you and Darcy in our thoughts and prayers. I feel for you as you deal with the complexities of this disease and the constant changes in medicine and schedule and everything else that are required to fight IMHA. Please take care and know we're here for you.

oh yeah, and one more thing that just shows we are all human...last night, for the first time since tiggs got sick in july, i forgot his evening meds! i was so distraught and upset when i realized this, but he's just fine today, in fact, he had a great day, so sometimes we just have to forgive ourselves! melissa and tiggs

Karen, hang in there and keep loving Darcy and know you are doing the very BEST of everything for him, but also know the ultimate best is the love you share with him and he gives you back. Rooting for you and Darcy to see some bright times in these hard days and love to the max. God Bless and may HE keep you strong and safe and paws up to Darcy for his part! sharon and angel Brandy

Hi, Karen. Please don't get distraught -- I do think there's hope. Sounds like Darcy is telling you that she's very loved and loving her life with you, which is all that matters. Raven's PCV was 24 two weeks ago, but was 21 last week, and my specialist said he was just happy she stayed "stable," and reduced her pred from 25 mg. 2x/day to 20 mg. 2x/day. That reduced her waking up in the middle of the night and seemed to bring her energy back. Today's reading was 22, and I'm waiting to hear back from the specialist on what that means. Right now, I'm just grateful that, even though she tires easily, she's playing with her toy again. I can't believe how all-consuming this thing is, but I'm trying to enjoy the good days...and when she feels good, I consider that a good day! Keep the faith, and know you've got me and Raven right here thinking good thoughts and sending you prayers. Sharon
